Nous sommes à la recherche d’un enquêteur principal ou d’une enquêtrice principale afin d’appuyer le chef de service, Enquêtes – Amériques, dans le cadre de la collaboration avec l’équipe élargie du Bureau de conduite des affaires. Pour que votre candidature soit prise en considération, vous devez être un ou un spécialiste reconnu (e) des enquêtes au sein de vos domaines d’expertise particuliers. Vous enquêterez sur des allégations complexes afin de parvenir à une résolution et vous adopterez un nouveau point de vue à partir de solutions existantes. Vous exercerez un rôle officiel de mentorat/formation auprès de membres du personnel d’échelons inférieurs. 

Vous assurerez l’interface avec les participants aux enquêtes et les divers groupes de parties prenantes à tous les niveaux de l’organisation. Vous devez posséder de bonnes compétences en matière de négociation et être en mesure de gérer des conflits et d’avoir des discussions difficiles avec les participants et autres intervenants. Vous devez faire preuve d’une intégrité exemplaire et irréprochable, avoir la capacité de prendre position de façon ferme, mais juste, et manifester une persévérance enthousiaste lorsque vous devez résoudre des problèmes complexes.

Il s’agit d’une excellente occasion pour une personne guidée par des valeurs, qui désire mener des enquêtes justes et humaines et faire progresser sa carrière dans le domaine des enquêtes en milieu professionnel. Relevant du Directeur, Enquêtes – Amériques, vous aurez les responsabilités suivantes :

  • Mener des enquêtes centrées sur les personnes et axées sur les traumatismes pour donner suite aux allégations d’inconduite touchant différents enjeux en Amérique du Nord et du Sud.
  • Collaborer de près avec un éventail de parties prenantes internes au sein de nos unités d’affaires, groupes de produits et fonctions pour mener à bien le processus d’enquête et assurer le bien-être des participants aux enquêtes.
  • Mener des entrevues indépendantes, recueillir, passer en revue et analyser la documentation et les preuves, et tenir à jour des dossiers exhaustifs.
  • Préparer des rapports d’enquête complets et être en mesure de démontrer les fondements justes et raisonnables de toutes les conclusions, que ce soit en interne ou lors d’un forum juridique externe, au besoin.
  • Si nécessaire, contribuer aux discussions post-enquête afin de cerner les facteurs organisationnels et environnementaux entourant les conclusions, et assister l’entreprise dans le cadre du processus des mesures correctives et préventives, notamment pour alimenter les stratégies continues d’optimisation des processus et d’atténuation des risques en matière d’intégrité commerciale.
  • Contribuer au développement continu du processus d’enquête.
  • Soutenir le chef de service, Enquêtes, pour tout autre projet ou tâche, selon les besoins.
  • Agir comme spécialiste et mentor(e) auprès des enquêteurs et enquêtrices d’échelons inférieurs.
  • Assurer la révision interne des rapports d’enquête.

 Votre contribution

Pour que votre candidature soit prise en considération, les exigences sont les suivantes :

  • Diplôme (ou accréditations professionnelles équivalentes) en matière d’enquête; posséder le titre de CPA ou avoir passé l’examen du Barreau, un atout
  • Formation en droit, comptabilité judiciaire, finance, audit ou ressources humaines
  • Profonde expérience des enquêtes portant aussi bien sur les inconduites générales et les comportements répréhensibles en milieu de travail (intimidation, harcèlement, discrimination) que sur les inconduites liées à l’intégrité commerciale (vol, fraude, corruption)
  • Profonde expérience en résolution de problèmes et de cas complexes
  • Compétences éprouvées en matière d’entrevue et de rédaction de rapports
  • Profonde expérience en analyse judiciaire de preuves
  • Connaissance des cadres de contrôles internes
  • Capacité à évaluer de grands volumes de données de façon efficace et organisée
  • Excellentes aptitudes pour la gestion du temps et la tenue de dossiers, et bon esprit d’équipe
  • Capacité à mentorer des membres de l’équipe d’échelons inférieurs et à favoriser leur développement
  • Maîtrise du français et de l’anglais à l’oral et à l’écrit (si vous posez votre candidature pour le poste basé à Montréal, au Québec). About the role

Finding better ways to provide the materials the world needs.

We are looking for a Principal Investigator to support the Investigations Manager Americas and to work in collaboration with the broader Business Conduct Office. To succeed in this role, you will be recognized as a specialist in investigations, within your areas of expertise. You will investigate and resolve complex allegations and take a new perspective using existing solutions. You will formally mentor and train more junior staff. 

You will be interfacing with investigation participants and various stakeholder groups across all levels of the organization. You must be capable of managing conflicts, have good negotiation skills and the ability to navigate difficult discussions with participants and stakeholders. You must display exemplary and unquestionable personal integrity and be able to take a firm but fair stand, displaying enthusiastic persistence when solving complex issues.

This is a great opportunity for a values guided individual looking to conduct fair, people-centric investigations and to advance their career within the Corporate Investigations area.

Reporting to the Investigations Manager for the Americas, you will:

  • Conduct trauma-informed and people-centric investigations into allegations of misconduct involving matters across South and North America
  • Work closely with a variety of internal stakeholders within our business units, product groups and functions in the implementation of the investigative process and to assist them with managing the welfare of investigation participants
  • Independently conduct interviews, collecting, reviewing and analyzing documentation and evidence and maintain comprehensive records
  • Prepare comprehensive investigation reports and be able to demonstrate the fair and reasonable basis for all findings, either internally or in an external legal forum if required
  • As required, contribute to post-investigation discussions to identify organizational and environmental factors relevant to findings and to assist the business with the Corrective and Preventative Action process, and as it relates to ongoing business integrity risk mitigation and process optimization strategies
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of the investigation process
  • Support the Investigations Manager in any other projects or tasks as required
  • Act as an expert and mentor lower-level investigators
  • Peer review investigation reports

What you’ll bring 

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • Degree level (or equivalent professional investigation accreditations), with preferably a professional accreditation such as CPA, Bar, or similar.
  • Background in either law, forensic accounting, finance, auditing or human resources
  • Deep experience in both general workplace/behavioral misconduct (bullying, harassment, discrimination) and integrity-based misconduct (theft, fraud, bribery) investigations
  • Deep experience in resolving complex problems and cases
  • Significant proven experience in interviewing and report writing
  • Deep experience in forensic analysis of evidence
  • Knowledge of internal control frameworks
  • Ability to evaluate large volumes of data in an efficient and organized manner
  • Excellent time management and record keeping and a good team ethic
  • Ability to mentor and develop junior team members
  • If you are applying for the role based in Montreal, Quebec, fluency in French and English, both written and spoken. Rio Tinto is a global company, and the duties of this position may require collaboration with colleagues, teams or partners based outside Quebec 
  • Speaking Spanish is an asset

Our assessments are designed to help us work out whether you are suitable for the role. We will let you know which ones you’ll need to complete.

Our interviews could be in person or online. It’s a great opportunity for us to get to know you a bit better, answer any of your questions and talk about the exciting career opportunity you have applied for.

Offers and checks

At this stage, we will let you know if you have been successful. If you have been, we’ll need to conduct a couple of checks, such as a background or security check. You may also need to do a medical assessment. depending on the role. you have applied for.
