About the role
We’re looking for graduates from a range of degrees for different areas across our business. This requisition is for a role of Graduate in Process Engineer based at Rio Tinto Labrador City.
As a Graduate Process Engineering, your role will include:
- Contributing to the design, development and operating processes for converting and refining raw materials into products.
- Along with the Process team, engage in many aspects of safe management of hazards across the Rio Tinto IOC processes.
- Assist the team in managing hazards of potential catastrophic nature within multiple cycles from mine to concentrating, to smelting and refining copper.

What you’ll bring
To be eligible for the Graduate program, you must have completed your studies within the last two years (2022, 2023) or working towards graduation in 2024.
- Bachelor or master’s degree in Chemical / Process Engineering, or other related field
- Less than two years of relevant work experience (local and international)
- Right to work in Canada
- Valid driver’s license
- A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
- Excellent analytical capability, attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
- Leadership skills, eagerness to learn and ready for the challenges ahead
- Interest in working in a large complex industrial environment
- Safety mindset
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Where will you be working
We are a leading North American producer and exporter of premium iron ore pellets and high-grade concentrate with average iron grades greater than 66%. With a team of over 2,400 employees, IOC is committed to providing value and continuity for our customers, employees, communities and shareholders through our unique mine to port approach, taking advantage of our full integration and wholly owned infrastructure to deliver our high-quality concentrate and pellets to our customers across the globe.
IOC’s operations include a mine with five operational pits, a concentrator and a pelletizing plant located near Labrador City in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. We also operate a whollyowned 418 km railway, the Quebec North Shore and Labrador Railway (QNS&L), that links our Labrador operations to Company-owned port facilities in Sept-Iles. This role is based in Labrador City.
