We are looking for an Indirect Tax Compliance Leader to lead a regional team of professionals responsible for timely and accurate external reporting, audit and appeals support, and research and analysis supporting internal customers. You will be responsible for the training and development of your team, as well as providing functional training and support to product and functional groups.
This role will emphasize the development of people and technical skills, your own as well as your team’s, in a dynamic environment supported by the resources of a recognized global natural resources leader committed to its values of Care, Courage, and Curiosity. Working with the regional Indirect Tax Manager, and supported by the global Indirect Tax Business Improvement & Analytics Advisor your will be responsible to:
- Identify indirect tax issues, seeking solutions and taking responsibility for delivery of a total solution and promoting the sharing of best practices as a proactive member of the global indirect tax team
- Train and supervise a team of tax professionals on applicable tax law and company tax policy
- Ensure implementation of process improvements and projects
- Identify, analyze and address tax issues arising from business unit and functional group activities, including the development and delivery of required trainings
- Manage return preparation and payments for Sales and Use, Property, Excise, Severance, Production and other US-based indirect taxes, as well as VAT, GST, QST and other non-US indirect taxes for US-based group companies
- Maintain and monitor the indirect tax matrix/planner for all compliance duties and deadlines
- Monitor nexus and setup indirect tax registrations in relevant tax jurisdictions
- File appeals, support audits, gather and analyze complex data for internal and external reporting
- Verify standard processes are maintained and followed during preparation and review of returns.
- Create and maintain procedure documents
- Identify and correct deviations from applicable tax controls.
What You’ll Bring
A degree or diploma in a Commercial discipline (e.g., Accounting, Finance); Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree and CPA preferred
- 5 or more years of professional experience in a commercial organization;
- Experience with SAP
- Ability to plan, organize, own, and prioritize multiple and simultaneous projects and assignments; meeting deadlines and key milestones
- Advanced experience with Microsoft suite, specifically Microsoft Excel, able to efficiently manipulate and summarize data using functions and formulas, Power Query, Power BI, and SharePoint and associated Microsoft Power Apps
- Experience with Canadian and European indirect tax a strong plus
- Possess strong orientation to detail, ownership of projects and delivering on deadlines
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Comfortable in a continuously changing work environment
- Champion standardization and automation of tax compliance processes
