Nous recherchons des professionnels motivés et concentrés avec une expertise approfondie en conception d'ingénierie, mise en service et support technique pour piloter et démontrer de nouvelles technologies pour le Groupe.

Sous la direction du Responsable / de la Responsable du Bureau d'Ingénierie, vous serez responsable de:

  • Développer les stratégies pour le pilotage et la démonstration des premières technologies R&D de leur genre les plus importantes pour la prochaine décennie.

  • Assurer que le Groupe déploie celles-ci à travers des pilotes et des démonstrations de manière à maximiser la rapidité et la valeur.

  • Façonner et garantir celles-ci grâce à votre expertise en systèmes d'ingénierie et technologies de nouvelle génération, et en favorisant une culture de haute performance au sein des équipes que vous rassemblez pour exécuter ces projets.

  • Piloter la collecte et le partage des enseignements et des bonnes pratiques en matière de pilotage et de démonstration industrielle à travers le Groupe.

  • Contribuer à l'assurance et à la gouvernance des processus/approches d'ingénierie critiques, y compris le partenariat et le transfert de technologie nécessaires pour réussir les pilotes, les démonstrations et la mise en œuvre.

  • Développer et maintenir des partenariats avec des bureaux d'études externes pour soutenir les équipes R&D dans la réalisation de pilotes et de démonstrations.

  • Mettre en place des bancs d'essai clés/installations, y compris des modèles de simulation de nouvelle génération pour accélérer la livraison de la technologie.

  • Travailler avec les équipes de projets et d'études de RT pour intégrer le développement de nouvelles technologies dans les études et projets Greenfield.

  • Fournir des contributions d'experts aux comités d'investissement et d'évaluation, avec assurance de la livraison de technologies de nouvelle génération.

  • Travailler avec les partenaires du Groupe de Produits et des Fonctions sur les besoins en budget et en ressources pour les pilotes et les démonstrations, et l'impact associé sur la livraison du plan.

  • Fournir un leadership intellectuel au sein d'une communauté de pratique en ingénierie pour une livraison efficace de l'innovation.

Pour être considéré avec succès pour ce rôle, vous devrez avoir :

  • Expérience étendue dans la production d’aluminium

  • Une vaste expérience en conception d'ingénierie, mise en service et support technique.

  • Une connaissance approfondie de l'industrie et une expérience de production.

  • Une compréhension approfondie du secteur des industries lourdes, y compris la connaissance des tendances de l'industrie.

  • Une capacité éprouvée à détecter et développer des stratégies technologiques, et à informer la stratégie d'entreprise.

  • Une capacité à s'engager en interne avec des dirigeants seniors, ingénieurs et techniciens, et en externe avec des bureaux d'études.

  • Une expérience avérée dans la direction de petites et grandes équipes, et une influence au-delà de la ligne hiérarchique.

  • Une expérience dans la livraison de technologies révolutionnaires et habilitantes.

  • Une connaissance approfondie et une expérience dans la conduite de l'innovation à grande vitesse, la mise en œuvre de technologies perturbatrices et la livraison de nouvelles technologies dans des environnements à haut risque.

  • Une capacité à identifier et prioriser les domaines technologiques d'intérêt stratégique le plus élevé.

  • Maitriser le français et l’anglais à l’oral et à l’écrit. Rio Tinto est une entreprise mondiale et les fonctions de ce poste exigent une collaboration quotidiennement avec des collègues, des équipes ou des partenaires basés à l’extérieur du Québec.

Atout:

  • Une qualification en ingénierie professionnelle (P.Eng.) ou équivalente est souhaitable mais pas essentielle pour le bon candidat.
  • Une expérience significative dans plusieurs matières premières et disciplines d'ingénierie (traitement, chimique, métallurgie extractive, mécanique, électrique, etc.) et technologies opérationnelles (OT) est souhaitable, mais pas essentielle.

Principal Advisor Engineering Design

  • Be part of a team of senior technical experts in our new Innovation, Science & Technology Group

  • Shape and assure the piloting and demonstration of the Group’s most material new technologies

  • Permanant role based in Saguenay, Qc

About the Role

Finding better ways to provide the materials the world needs. 

We are looking for driven, focused professionals with deep expertise in engineering design, commissioning, and technical support to drive the piloting and demonstration of new technologies for the Group.

This is a great opportunity to showcase your proven experience in developing technology and ensuring the delivery of these for the benefit of the wider Group.

Reporting to the Head of Engineering Office, you will be responsible for: 

  • Developing the strategies for the piloting and demonstration of the most material first-of-a-kind R&D technologies for the next decade

  • Ensuring the Group rolls these out thorough pilots and demonstrations in a way that maximizes speed and value

  • Shape and assure these via your expertise in engineering systems and next-generation technology, and fostering a high-performance culture within teams that you bring together for execution of these projects

  • Driving the collection and sharing of learnings and good practices in piloting and industrial demonstration across the Group

  • Contributing to the assurance and governance of critical engineering processes/approaches, including partnering and technology transfer required for successful pilots, demonstrations and implementation

  • Developing and maintaining partnerships with external engineering houses to support R&D teams in delivery of pilots and demonstrations

  • Standing up key test beds/ facilities including next-generation simulation models to accelerate technology delivery

  • Engaging with RT Projects & Studies project teams to integrate new technology development into Greenfield Studies and Projects

  • Providing expert input to Investment and Evaluation Committees, with next-generation technology delivery assurance

  • Working with Product Group and Functional partners on budgeting and resourcing requirements for pilots and demonstrations, and associated impact on plan delivery

  • Providing thought leadership within a community of engineering practice in effective innovation delivery

What you’ll bring 

To succeed in this role, you should have: 

  • Extensive experience in Aluminium production

  • Extensive experience in engineering design, commissioning and technical support

  • Extensive industry knowledge and production experience

  • In-depth understanding of the heavy industry sector including knowledge of industry trends

  • A proven ability in sensing and developing technology strategies, and informing corporate strategy

  • An ability to engage internally with Senior Leaders, Engineers and Technicians and externally with engineering houses

  • Proven experience in leading small and large teams, and influencing beyond the line

  • Experience in delivering breakthrough and enabling technologies

  • Deep knowledge and experience driving innovation at pace, implementing disruptive technologies, and delivering new technologies in high-hazard environments

  • An ability to identify and prioritize technology areas of the highest strategic interest

  • Fluent in French and English, both written and spoken. Rio Tinto is a global company and the duties of this position require daily collaboration with colleagues, teams or partners based outside Quebec.

Asset:

  • A Professional Engineering (P.Eng.) or equivalent qualification is desirable but not essential for the right candidate
  • Significant experience in multiple commodities and engineering disciplines (processing, chemical, extractive metallurgy, mechanical, electrical etc.), and operational technologies (OT) is desirable, but not essential
