Au sujet du poste 

Nous sommes à la recherche d’un(e) étudiant(e) ou stagiaire en droit pour une période de 4 ou 6 mois (si stage de formation professionnelle du Barreau du Québec) à partir de juillet 2025. Ce poste fait partie de l’équipe juridique du centre régional de Montréal dont la fonction est de fournir des conseils et du support juridique à Rio Tinto et ses unités d’affaires, en ce qui concerne leurs activités commerciales ainsi que l’exploitation et les opérations. Les principales unités d’affaires et fonctions que le service juridique dessert sont Aluminium, IOC (fer), Fer et Titane, mines de diamants, exploration minière, la fermeture et la gestion des anciens sites, l’approvisionnement, les finances, les ressources humaines, communautés et performance sociale puis santé, sécurité et environnement.  

Dans le cadre de ce rôle, vous aurez les mandats suivants :  

  • Faire de la recherche et fournir des avis juridiques portant sur des questions dans plusieurs domaines du droit, dont le droit commercial et corporatif, l’environnement, les fusions et acquisitions, le droit des contrats, le droit civil, santé et sécurité, et autres;  
  • Préparer et analyser des contrats et documents juridiques connexes, notamment des contrats commerciaux, de transactions, d'achat de biens et des services, des contrats de confidentialité et protocoles d'entente divers;  
  • Faire le suivi de la conformité de l'entreprise en regard des divers lois et règlements qui la régissent;  
  • Assister les membres de l'équipe à l'égard des dossiers de réclamations ou de litiges;  
  • Aider les membres de l'équipe juridique dans leur rôle de conseiller d'entreprise autant dans le cadre de dossiers stratégiques qu'opérationnels; et  
  • Préparer des présentations, et préparer des formations.  

Veuillez noter qu’il s’agit d’une opportunité à temps plein; seuls les candidats qui peuvent travailler à temps plein seront considérés pour le rôle. 

Votre contribution  

  • Avoir complété au moins la deuxième année d'un baccalauréat en droit (LLB, BCL ou combinaison) ou encore être admissible au stage du Barreau du Québec.  (Il faudra nous fournir votre relevé de notes avec votre CV)
  • Maîtriser le français et l’anglais à l’oral et à l’écrit. Rio Tinto est une entreprise mondiale et les fonctions de ce poste exigent une collaboration quotidiennement avec des collègues, des équipes et des partenaires basés à l’extérieur du Québec. 
  • Facilité à communiquer tant à l'oral qu'à l'écrit. De très fortes aptitudes à la rédaction sont souhaitées 
  • Très bonne capacité d'analyse et à pouvoir faire des synthèses  
  • Autonomie et sens des responsabilités  
  • Bon sens de l'organisation du travail et de la priorisation  
  • Polyvalence : être versatile est essentiel car les enjeux sont nombreux et variés  
  • Bonne maitrise des outils de collaboration de Microsoft Office 365

Notre bureau de Montréal est un des sièges sociaux de Rio Tinto et soutient les opérations canadiennes, américaines et autres régions mondiales. Il est le siège social mondial de notre groupe de produit aluminium, chef de file de l’industrie et soutient les activités de production de différents matériaux incluant les diamants, cuivre, fer et autres matériaux industriels. En plus des relations d’entreprises, notre bureau de Montréal regroupe d’autres fonctions comme les achats, ressources humaines, technologies de l’information et finance.

Intern – Summer 2025

About the position  

We are looking for a law student or intern for a period of 4 or 6 months (if it is a Barreau du Québec professional training internship) starting in July 2025. This position is part of the legal team in the Montreal regional center whose function is to provide legal advice and support to Rio Tinto and its business units, with respect to their commercial activities as well as operations and operations. The main business units and functions that the Legal Department serves are Aluminum, IOC (Iron), Iron and Titanium, Diamond Mines, Mining Exploration, Closure and Management of Legacy Sites, Procurement, Finance, Human Resources, Communities and Social Performance, and Health, Safety and Environment.  

As part of this role, you will have the following mandates:  

  • Conduct research and provide legal advice on issues in several areas of law, including commercial and corporate law, the environment, mergers and acquisitions, contract law, civil law, health and safety, and others;  
  • Prepare and analyze contracts and related legal documents, including commercial contracts, transactions, purchase of goods and services, confidentiality agreements and various memoranda of understanding;  
  • Monitor the company's compliance with the various laws and regulations that govern it;  
  • Assist team members with claims or litigation files;  
  • Assist members of the legal team in their role as corporate advisors on both strategic and operational matters;  
  • and Prepare presentations and prepare training sessions.  

Your contribution  

  • Have completed at least the second year of a Bachelor of Laws (LLB, BCL or combination) or be eligible for the Barreau du Québec internship.  (You will need to provide your transcript along with your CV)
  • Ease of communicating both orally and in writing.  
  • Very strong writing skills are desired and very good analytical and summarizing skills  
  • Autonomy and sense of responsibility  
  • Good sense of work organization and prioritization  
  • Versatility: being versatile is essential because there are many varied challenges 
  • Good command of Microsoft Office 365 collaboration tools  
  • Be fluent in French and English, both orally and in writing. Rio Tinto is a global company and the duties of this position require daily collaboration with colleagues, teams and partners based outside of Quebec.

Our Montreal office is one of Rio Tinto's headquarters and supports Canadian, American and other global operations. It is the global headquarters of our industry-leading aluminium product group and supports the production of a range of materials including diamonds, copper, iron and other industrial materials. In addition to corporate relations, our Montreal office is home to other functions such as purchasing, human resources, information technology and finance.
