Nous recherchons un(e) Chef(fe) de service principal, Stratégie et Développement des Affaires basé à Montréal pour jouer un rôle crucial au sein du Groupe de Produits Minéraux (PG).

Nous recherchons un leader hautement expérimenté, crédible et compétent. L'acuité commerciale, la résilience, l'auto-motivation et des compétences de communication exceptionnelles sont essentielles pour ce rôle, car vous serez amené à interagir avec de larges groupes d'intervenants, démontrant la crédibilité, établissant la confiance et influençant les résultats. Vous serez un expert en résolution de problèmes, un penseur critique et surtout engagé à générer des résultats positifs pour l'entreprise.

Contexte

Le Groupe de Produits (GP) Minéraux a une envergure mondiale avec plus de 20 actifs opérationnels et projets de développement dans quatre matières premières clés : le minerai de fer à haute teneur, les sables minéraux, les matériaux pour batteries et les diamants. Le portefeuille comprend des actifs entièrement détenus et gérés, des coentreprises gérées, des coentreprises non gérées et des partenariats.

Le Groupe Minéraux est confronté à plusieurs décisions stratégiques qui définiront l'orientation du groupe de produits pour l'avenir. Il s'agit probablement d'opportunités de développement de projets organiques, d'acquisitions, de création et de gestion de coentreprises et de cessions. L'équipe Stratégie et Développement des Affaires est chargée de coordonner les projets stratégiques et les activités de développement des affaires au sein de Minéraux et de collaborer avec d'autres fonctions et parties prenantes du groupe Rio Tinto.

Sous la responsabilité du Directeur Général, Stratégie et Développement des Affaires, vos responsabilités consisteront à:

  • Participer à l'élaboration des stratégies des unités d'affaires pour les quatre matières premières du groupe Minéraux

  • Participer à l'élaboration et à la mise en œuvre de projets stratégiques nécessaires pour soutenir la mise en œuvre de la stratégie des Minéraux

  • Travailler en étroite collaboration avec la direction des unités d'affaires(UA) et le personnel clé pour faire avancer les objectifs du groupe et des UA

  • Collaborer avec l'équipe d'analyse commerciale pour élaborer et évaluer des modèles financiers afin de soutenir la génération et l'évaluation de projets stratégiques et de transactions potentielles

  • Générer des idées d'investissement en menant des recherches sur l'industrie, les projets et les entreprises et identifier des cibles d'investissement attrayantes

  • Identifier des stratégies d'entrée pour les opportunités sélectionnées, y compris les considérations financières et commerciales

  • Aider à mener les vérifications diligentes ; gérer et collaborer avec des conseillers externes pour obtenir des informations lors des vérifications diligentes

  • Contribuer aux processus d'approbation du Comité d'Investissement et du Conseil d'administration, y compris la rédaction de recommandations du comité d'investissement, de documents d'approbation et de présentations

  • Diriger la négociation et l'exécution des accords et autres documents commerciaux et juridiques liés aux transactions

  • Gérer les relations avec les coentreprises et les partenaires

  • Soutenir la gestion et l'amélioration des relations avec les principales parties prenantes internes et externes

Votre contribution

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Manager, Strategy & Business Development based in Montreal to play a critical role within the Minerals Product Group (PG). We are looking for a highly experienced, credible and capable leader. Commercial acumen, resilience, self-motivation and exceptional communication skills are essential for this role, as you will be required to interface with broad stakeholder groups, displaying credibility, building trust and influencing outcomes. You will be an expert problem solver, critical thinker and most importantly committed to driving positive outcomes for the business. 

Context

The Minerals product group has a global footprint with over 20 operating assets and development projects across four key commodities: high grade iron ore, mineral sands, battery materials and diamonds.  The portfolio includes fully owned and managed assets, managed joint ventures, non-managed joint ventures and partnerships.

Minerals is facing a number of strategic decisions that will set the direction of the product group for the future.  These are likely to include organic project development opportunities, acquisitions, creation and management of joint ventures and divestments. The Strategy & Business Development team is responsible for coordinating strategic projects and business development activities across Minerals and interfacing with other Rio Tinto Group functions and stakeholders.

Reporting to the GM Strategy & Business Development, you will be responsible to:

  • Participate in the development of Business Unit strategies across Minerals’ four commodities

  • Participate in the development and implementation of strategic projects required to support implementation of the Minerals’ strategy

  • Work closely with individual Business Unit management and key personnel to progress PG and BU objectives

  • Work with Business Analysis team to build and evaluate financial models to support generation and evaluation of strategic projects and potential transactions

  • Generate investment ideas by conducting industry, project and company research and identify attractive investment targets

  • Identify entry strategies for selected opportunities, including finance and commercial considerations

  • Assist in conducting due diligence; manage and work with third party advisers to obtain due diligence insights

  • Contribute to Investment Committee and Board approval processes, including drafting investment committee recommendations, approval papers and presentations.

  • Lead the negotiation and execution of agreements and other transaction-related commercial and legal documentation

  • Manage relationships with joint venture and partnership counterparties

  • Support the management and enhancement of relationships with key internal and external stakeholders

What you’ll bring

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team

  • Academic qualification; finance / commercial degree

  • Solid experience in commercial and financial roles, including management positions

  • Resource industry experience with an exposure to a variety of commodities or similar industry 

  • Ability to think critically and in a considered manner to assess strategic opportunities

  • Experience in leading commercial negotiations

  • Experience presenting complex information and analysis to a range of stakeholders

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, a strong team ethic and collaborative working style that will enable you to build and maintain a broad network within the team as well as with advisers and partners.

  • Fluency in French and English, both written and spoken. Rio Tinto is a global company, and the duties of this position may require collaboration with colleagues, teams or partners based outside Quebec

  • Ability to travel on sites in Canada and globally mini 25% of the time

It will also be beneficial if you have:

  • A post graduate degree, Masters / MBA above

  • Experience with government interaction / negotiations

  • International work experience, particularly in emerging markets
