The Application Specialist Technical Systems is the subject matter expert in Operational Technology and Applications Management. This role involves working within a dynamic environment, managing both legacy and modern technologies. Reporting to the Superintendent Technical Systems, the role entails technical ownership of a suite of applications and platforms, driving continuous improvement, and maintaining relevant standards. In the IS&T functional area, our team is dedicated to managing and improving Rio Tinto's IT operating environment. We continuously configure, sustain, and enhance the IT technology platform to deliver efficient IT services, encompassing network, applications, software, and hardware. Our goal is to embed processes effectively and provide support for the seamless integration of IT solutions into business operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- The Specialist Technical Systems is responsible for managing and maintaining a portfolio of systems, including integration, application, and information systems. This role involves promoting Rio Tinto values and ensuring a safe working environment for a multi-sourced team, which includes internal members, customers, software vendors, and other service suppliers. As the functional expert for a defined set of applications and interfaces, the Specialist provides detailed definitions of how various applications support business requirements and objectives.
- Additionally, the role ensures that operational support meets service level objectives, manages third-party technical support, and maintains integration and application reference architectures. The Specialist oversees the application change portfolio, ensuring progress within agreed processes and standards, and provides consultation to improve existing information solutions. Quality assurance of projects and guiding external service providers to meet operational deliverables are also key aspects of this role.
