About the role
We are looking for a Marine Business Partner (Pacific) to help shape the future success and alignment of Rio Tinto's business needs and the marine teams. This incorporates maximizing value across the supply chain between internal Product Groups (or business units) and Marine, supporting cross-desk chartering requirements, and analyzing complex tradeoff considerations for the overall end-to-end value chain.
Reporting to the General Manager, Chartering, and a dotted line to the General Manager Voyage Operations, you will:

Be the primary contact for assigned business units to ensure alignment between business needs and cross-desk Marine activities, processes, and interfaces.

Lead and represent chartering & voyage operations tactical activities (as part of developing the global freight portfolio strategies) through aspects of Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP), Integrated Scheduling, Sites/Ports/terminals, and cross-desk optimization meetings.

Partner with Global Portfolio Managers to support analysis of freight books, while also contributing to the growth of desk projects and business expansions.

Develop an understanding of the overall commercial value drivers, sensitivities, and dependencies while also being visionary to drive continuous progress.

Function as an advocate and educator, ensuring business units understand current freight capabilities, constraints, and available solutions.

Increase value chain stakeholder engagement, including stakeholder interests, risks, and opportunities, and able to effectively progress these plans across teams.

Coordinate material initiatives with Marine and internal stakeholders to improve freight efficiencies in the supply chain.
About you
To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

Relevant Degree qualifications.

Strong strategic and commercial acumen; naturally, a big picture thinker who welcomes complexity and uncertainty yet executes and delivers independently with limited guidance.

Curious, analytical mindset; can deliver meaningful insights.
-
Ability to drive effective decision making through strong communication and stakeholder management skills (up to senior executive levels).
-
Ability to shape Marine initiatives into clear proposals, including through the development of articulate and compelling presentations.

Ideal candidate comes with 10+ years of experience in/across freight portfolio management, commodity marketing/trading, business strategy, project management (Freight trading/Chartering experience will be beneficial)

Knowledge across shipping markets would be highly beneficial.

Where you will be working
Headquartered in Singapore, and integrated with Rio Tinto’s assets, hubs, and offices globally, our Commercial group works hand-in-hand with our product groups to ensure both the amount and types of products we produce meet our customers’ needs, and manage the trade-off between volumes, quality, cost, and capital expenditure.
