Our Advanced Analytics and Data team is part of the Digital Division of Rio Tinto Iron Ore (RTIO) whose primary purpose is to accelerate RTIO digital transformation programs. The Advanced Analytics & Data team is responsible for both the advanced analytics that sit within the digital programs (such as AI, data science, simulation and optimisation), as well as transforming our data and reporting landscape.
About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled Business Intelligence Developer with a strong background in the mining industry, particularly in Value Chain analytics and forecasting. This role will be instrumental in transforming complex data into actionable insights that support strategic decision-making across the mining value chain.
Key Responsibilities:

Develop and maintain reporting Standards for all governed reports to be developed against to ensure consistency and quality.

Play a key role in ensuring both vendor and internal reporting teams adhere to these standards through established governance processes.

Contribute forward-thinking ideas to evolve and enhance the reporting framework in alignment with future business needs.

Provide training and support to report developers, particularly in resolving complex technical challenges.

Assist in setting up large and complex projects for success by establishing clear Agile cadences and frameworks from the outset.

Collaborate with stakeholders across departments to understand reporting needs and translate them into effective BI solutions.

Integrate and model data from multiple sources systems, production databases, and forecasting tools.

Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and governance in all reporting outputs.
About You
-
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field. Equivalent industry experience will also be considered.

Proven experience as a Power BI Developer in a mining or heavy industry environment.

Strong understanding of the mining value chain, including production, processing, logistics, and marketing.

Experience with forecasting techniques and tools (e.g., time series analysis, regression models).

Proficiency in DAX, Power Query (M), and data modeling.

Familiarity with SQL, Azure Data Services, or other cloud-based data platforms.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.

Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
It would also be advantageous if you have:

Experience with Python or R for advanced analytics.

Knowledge of data governance and data quality frameworks.

Exposure to Agile methodologies and DevOps for BI.

Where you will be working
This role offers a Monday to Friday roster and based at Rio Tinto’s Perth head office at the Central Park building.
