El/la Gerente de Geociencias es responsable de desarrollar y liderar la estrategia de conocimiento del cuerpo mineral para los depósitos conocidos dentro del joint venture Nuevo Cobre. Esto incluye liderar el diseño y ejecución de programas de desarrollo de recursos, estudios geotécnicos y geometalúrgicos, modelamiento de recursos y reservas, geología de mina, control de leyes y procesos de reconciliación.
Este rol garantiza que los aportes geocientíficos se integren en el desarrollo del proyecto y la planificación operativa, apoyando la toma de decisiones estratégicas y la creación de valor a largo plazo. También cumple una función clave en la alineación de los esfuerzos geocientíficos con oportunidades de exploración en áreas brownfield y otras iniciativas de Rio Tinto.
Responsabilidades principales y áreas clave de enfoque

Liderar el desarrollo y ejecución de programas geocientíficos en las áreas de desarrollo de recursos, geotecnia, geometalurgia y geología de mina.

Ser responsable de la integridad de los modelos de recursos/reservas y de los procesos de reconciliación.

Aportar conocimiento técnico profundo en disciplinas de geología y minería para respaldar los resultados del proyecto y las operaciones.

Aplicar técnicas y tecnologías adecuadas para interpretar datos geológicos y apoyar decisiones del proyecto.

Construir y liderar un equipo de geociencias de alto rendimiento, fomentando el desarrollo de talento y capacidades en línea con los valores de Rio Tinto.

Implementar prácticas efectivas para el desarrollo del personal y la gestión del desempeño en todos los niveles.

Relacionarse con actores externos, incluidos expertos de la industria, instituciones académicas y proveedores de I+D, para fortalecer redes técnicas e impulsar la innovación.

Brindar soporte geocientífico a otras áreas de Rio Tinto, asegurando la alineación con exploración brownfield y oportunidades estratégicas.

Lo que aportarás y lo que se requiere para ser considerado/a para este rol

Título universitario en Geología, Geociencias, Ingeniería en Minas o campo relacionado.

Especialización de posgrado en modelamiento de recursos, ingeniería geotécnica o geometalurgia (deseable).

Mínimo 20 años de experiencia en roles geocientíficos dentro de proyectos y operaciones mineras de gran escala.

Experiencia comprobada en desarrollo de recursos, estimación de reservas y geología de mina en depósitos de cobre o polimetálicos.
-
Sólido conocimiento de metodologías geotécnicas y geometalúrgicas y su integración en la planificación minera.
-
Familiaridad con software de modelamiento geológico (por ejemplo, Leapfrog, Vulcan, Datamine) y herramientas de reconciliación.
-
Capacidad demostrada para liderar equipos técnicos multidisciplinarios y gestionar programas geocientíficos complejos.

Experiencia en mentoría y desarrollo de talento técnico en disciplinas geocientíficas.

Habilidades sólidas de relacionamiento y colaboración con redes internas y externas.

About the Role

The Manager Geoscience is responsible for developing and owning the orebody knowledge strategy for known deposits within the Nuevo Cobre joint venture. This includes leading the design and execution of resource development programs, geotechnical and geometallurgical studies, resource and reserve modeling, mine geology, grade control, and reconciliation processes.
The role ensures that geoscientific inputs are integrated into project development and operational planning, supporting strategic decision-making and long-term value creation. It also plays a key role in aligning geoscience efforts with brownfields exploration opportunities and broader Rio Tinto initiatives..
Primary responsibilities & key focus areas

Lead the development and execution of geoscience programs across resource development, geotechnical, geometallurgical, and mine geology domains.

Own and maintain the integrity of resource/reserve models and reconciliation processes.

Provide deep technical input across geology and mining disciplines to support project and operational outputs.

Apply appropriate techniques and technologies to interpret geological data and inform project decisions.

Build and manage a high-performing geoscience team, fostering talent development and capability growth in line with Rio Tinto’s values.

Implement effective practices for staff development and performance management across all levels.

Engage with external stakeholders, including industry experts, academic institutions, and R&D providers, to strengthen technical networks and innovation.

Provide geoscience support to other Rio Tinto areas, ensuring alignment with brownfields exploration and strategic opportunities.

Adapt departmental plans and priorities to address operational challenges and resource needs.

Influence decisions beyond the immediate team by leveraging knowledge of related disciplines and regional best practices.
What you will bring and require to be considered for this role

Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Geoscience, Mining Engineering, or related field.
-
Postgraduate specialization in resource modeling, geotechnical engineering, or geometallurgy (preferred).

Minimum 20 years of experience in geoscience roles within large-scale mining projects and operations.

Proven experience in resource development, reserve estimation, and mine geology in copper or polymetallic deposits.

Strong understanding of geotechnical and geometallurgical methodologies and their integration into mine planning.

Familiarity with geological modeling software (e.g., Leapfrog, Vulcan, Datamine) and reconciliation tools.

Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary technical teams and manage complex geoscience programs.
