We’re seeking a motivated and inquisitive Geoscientist to join our Mine Technical Services (MTS) team in Perth. In this full-time position, you’ll support site-based mine geology teams across 2–3 locations, contributing to grade control processes that define the location and quality of our premium iron ore deposits.
Your work will directly influence the production of high-quality lump and fines products, while offering exposure to a variety of geo-metallurgical plant processes. You’ll collaborate with a diverse group of internal stakeholders and participate in quarterly site visits (minimum), helping to ensure operational excellence and product consistency.
This is a unique opportunity to be part of the broader MTS Geoscience team, which oversees ore quality from drilling through to crushing, striving for optimal reconciliation between block models and final product outcomes.
Reporting to the Central Geoscience Superintendent, your responsibilities will include:

Conducting QAQC checks to identify and resolve issues

Performing site-based modelling using our 3D blockout methodology

Contributing to weekly and monthly grade control reconciliation

Supporting mine geology teams in safely maximising ore body value
What you will bring
You’ll be joining a close-knit network of geoscientists supporting all Rio Tinto Iron Ore (RTIO) operations, where you’ll build on your existing mine geology experience.
Required qualifications and experience:

Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Geology or a related discipline
-
Valid C-class driver’s licence
-
Prior experience in mine geology, ideally within iron ore

Familiarity with Vulcan software and the Microsoft Office suite
-
Proven ability to collect, validate, and interpret QAQC data (RC and blast hole) to support grade control
-
An understanding of mine production processes – block model to pit to plant to stockyard

Where you will be working
This role is based at Central Park in Perth, operating on a standard 5:2 roster (8-hour days). Quarterly travel to Pilbara sites is required. Flexible Work Arrangements are supported by the company.
