We are looking for a Project Manager to develop and manage all operational readiness requirements for Tailings expansion projects related to Slice II, APEX and Tailings Capital projects.
Rio Tinto Kennecott is a fully integrated mining operation located just outside Salt Lake City, Utah, US. Kennecott is a wholly owned subsidiary of Rio Tinto. Typical responsibilities and accountabilities for this position:
Progressing Projects:
- Learning and following the requirements that are found in the Capital projects framework (CPF).
- Developing relationships and coordinating with our plant stakeholders to identify problems, prioritize projects, and develop appropriate scopes of work for plant improvements.
- Developing clear scopes and objectives for our contracted engineers to reduce re-engineering and work outside the parameters of the proposed project.
- Designing in safety from the beginning.
- Creating conservative project schedules when developing capital expenditure approvals.
- Creating highly accurate cost estimates.
- Develop comprehensive risk registers addressing project, safety, environmental and business risks.
- Completing well written and presented documents.
Executing Projects:
- Work with the project controls team to set up project cost and schedule baselines, then continual coordinating with the team to keep them current.
- Competitively bidding and selecting contractors based on predetermined selection criteria.
- Manage Project Safety
- Making continual safety improvements
- Gaining complete technical knowledge of projects to meet the expectations of the plants
- Utilize field personnel effectively.
- Continual management of Stakeholder expectations
- Managing Contractors / Vendors
- Manage business and safety risks
- Handover and Project Close-out
Personal Developing / Team Development:
- Continual development of project management, specific subject material, and leadership skills.
- Mentoring others by sharing your knowledge.
What you will need for this role:
To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
- A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or other relevant related technical field
- 8 years of progressively responsible experience in project management experience in heavy industry
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and experience with computer system applications, including Word, Excel, Power Point, MS Project
Beneficial for this role:
- Experience using AutoCAD.
- Broad understanding of program management, project management, project controls, business improvement, contract management, risk management & change management
- Knowledge of Project based software tools and systems
- Project management certification (PMP) or advance project management training
