Rio Tinto is seeking a dynamic and experienced Contracts & Procurement Manager to lead strategic sourcing and contract management initiatives across the Winu Project.
The Contracts & Procurement Manager leads all procurement and contract management activities, ensuring strategic sourcing, value creation, and risk mitigation. This role is responsible for the full lifecycle of major and complex contracts, from strategy development through to close-out, in accordance with Rio Tinto’s standards, industry best practices, and contract law. The manager works in close partnership with Project Controls to align procurement with project cost, schedule, and change management objectives.
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Contracts and Procurement and working in a collaborative community, your responsibilities will include:

Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute Contracts & Procurement strategies tailored to the Winu Project, ensuring delivery of financial savings, value creation, and risk mitigation.

Lifecycle Management: Manage and administer the entire lifecycle of major and complex contracts, including strategy development, negotiation, administration, and close-out, ensuring compliance with company procedures and industry standards.

Project Contracting Plan (PCP): Lead the development and maintenance of the PCP, outlining strategies to deliver project objectives and ensure compliance with corporate legal requirements.

Commercial Support: Provide expert commercial advice and support to project directors, owners’ teams, and project teams, including negotiating, establishing, and administering contracts.

Performance & Reporting: Communicate and report on contract performance to management, ensuring timely payments, submission of securities, releases, and contract close-out.

Systems & Data: Ensure accurate input of data into contracts administration databases and proper use of contract administration software.

Continuous Improvement: Contribute to the design, implementation, and improvement of common processes, practices, and systems across the project portfolio.

Capability Development: Support the development of competencies and training for procurement and contracts team members, contributing to the Procurement and Commercial Community of Practice.

Stakeholder Engagement: Manage relationships with vendors, service providers, engineering partners, suppliers, manufacturers, and implementation contractors.

Project Controls Collaboration: Work closely with Project Controls to ensure alignment on cost forecasting, schedule control, change management, and risk mitigation for the Winu Project.
What you will bring:

Commitment to safety and ethical procurement practices.

Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Law, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).

Proven expert level experience in procurement and contract management, preferably in the mining/resources sector and on major projects.

Experience working with Project Controls teams on cost, schedule, and change management for large-scale projects.

Strong negotiation, analytical, and stakeholder engagement skills.

Familiarity with procurement and project controls systems (e.g., SAP, PM+, SharePoint, Unifier).

Experience with power-related contracts (e.g., PPAs) and joint venture partners is highly regarded.

Ability to manage cross-regional procurement projects and global sourcing.

Strong interpersonal skills, organised, and able to thrive in a busy, collaborative environment.
