Estamos buscando un Gerente de Salud, Higiene, Seguridad y Medio Ambiente (HSE) para desarrollar y fomentar una positiva cultura de HSE dentro de la Región y fortalecer las capacidades de HSE
Este papel es una gran oportunidad para asesorar sobre los riesgos, controles, procesos y sistemas de HSE dentro Rio Tinto Litio (RTLi) en Argentina. Reportándose al Director Asociado de HSE- Argentina, el candidato deberá:
- Liderar un equipo de profesionales de HSE radicado en las operaciones del Salar del Rincón en la provincia de Salta en Argentina, con 5 días de trabajo y 2 días de descanso.
- Desarrollar y ejecutar planes anuales de HSE y establecer prioridades para una planta actualmente en operación en línea con los riesgos del proyecto, los planes comerciales, los estándares de Rio Tinto, y las disposiciones legales.
- Liderar los procesos de OR (Operational Readiness) desde el lado de la operación, de manera de asegurar una transición adecuada y segura de los proyectos actualmente en expansión.
- Identificar los riesgos de HSE y mitigarlos mediante la evaluación de los riesgos y la definición de regímenes de monitoreo, la salud laboral a través de la vigilancia médica y monitoreo del lugar de trabajo, la seguridad por medio de los análisis e informes sobre las estadísticas de lesiones e incidentes y los informes sobre el desempeño de HSE, recomendando e implementando respuestas y acciones según las necesidades.
- Contratar prestadores externos de servicios de acuerdo a las necesidades para proporcionar servicios de expertos y especialistas que aborden las necesidades y riesgos identificados, y manejar a los prestadores externos en consonancia con las exigencias de contratación de Rio Tinto, garantizando la relación calidad precio.
- Supervisar los procesos de gestión de casos para lesiones y problemas de salud, asegurándose que se ejecuten las acciones pertinentes a abordar y se cumpla con los requisitos (p.ej., facilitando evacuaciones médicas y estableciendo y coordinando la reincorporación a la rutina laboral en contacto con los empleados pertinentes, los especialistas médicos y el lugar de trabajo).
- Implementar los estándares y procedimientos de la supervisión de contratistas para asegurarse que los contratistas cumplan tanto con Rio Tinto como con las normas y requisitos legales, llevar a cabo la precalificación y auditorías de gestión de los contratistas, brindar asesoramiento y colaboración en el lugar de trabajo /presencial para asegurarse que los contratistas estén eficazmente controlados y cumplan con los estándares y requisitos de HSE.
- Gestionar el cumplimiento de HSE mediante el desarrollo e implementación de sistemas que cumplan tanto con Rio Tinto como con las normas y requisitos legales. Gestionar el desempeño individual y del equipo para lograr resultados de organización y fomentar una cultura del lugar de trabajo acorde con los códigos de conducta “nuestra forma de trabajo” pertenecientes a Río Tinto
- Asegurar el cumplimiento legal tanto en materia ambiental como de seguridad, articulando los planes con un objetivo global de sustentabilidad.
Lo que Ud. aportará
- Un ambiente laboral en el que la seguridad y el ambiente son siempre la prioridad número uno.
- Calificaciones en una disciplina pertinente tal como higiene, seguridad, medio ambiente y/o ciencias sociales.
- Habilidades lingüísticas (se valora positivamente el dominio del español y del inglés).
- Capacidad para viajar a lugares remotos y para trabajar a grandes alturas.
- Competencia significativa en HSE (10sp años) y logros en la gestión de riesgos de HSE y requisitos aplicables a un ambiente operativo complejo, en un lugar de trabajo remoto.
- Experiencia considerable en ambientes y condiciones de trabajo mineros y de construcción de gran dimensión.
- Pensamiento estratégico bien desarrollado, gestión operativa y técnicas de gestión de proyectos para planear, administrar y entregar un programa de trabajo significativo y complejo incluyendo la habilidad de administrar los recursos y presupuestos relacionados.
- La habilidad de brindar un liderazgo a nivel estratégico, promoviendo un enfoque de HSE centrado en los clientes y en un equipo coherente, y desarrollar y fomentar que los empleados se sientan involucrados en la ejecución de HSE.
- Competencias de alto nivel de resolución de problemas técnicos al investigar y solucionar temas complejos de HSE con la habilidad de desarrollar soluciones innovadoras.

About the role

We are looking a Health, Safety, Hygiene and Environment (HSE) Manager to develop and foster a strong, positive HSE culture across the Region and to strengthen HSE capabilities.
This role offers an exciting opportunity to provide expert advice on HSE risks, controls, processes and systems across Rio Tinto Lithium (RTLi) Argentina. Reporting to the Associate Director HSE – Argentina, the successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Leading a team of HSE professionals based at the Salar del Rincón operations in Salta Province, Argentina, operating on a 5 days on / 2 days off roster.
- Developing and delivering annual HSE plans and setting clear priorities for an operating plant, aligned with project risks, business plans, Rio Tinto standards and applicable legal requirements.
- Leading Operational Readiness (OR) processes from the operations perspective, ensuring a safe and effective transition of projects currently under expansion.
- Identifying HSE risks and managing them through risk assessments and the definition of monitoring regimes, including occupational health through medical surveillance and workplace monitoring, and safety through analysis and reporting of injury and incident statistics and HSE performance. Recommending and implementing appropriate responses and corrective actions as required.
- Engaging and managing external service providers, as required, to deliver expert and specialist services to address identified risks and needs, in line with Rio Tinto procurement requirements and ensuring value for money.
- Overseeing injury and health-related case management processes, ensuring appropriate actions are implemented and compliance requirements are met (e.g. facilitating medical evacuations and coordinating return-to-work plans in collaboration with employees, medical specialists and the workplace).
- Implementing contractor management standards and procedures to ensure contractors comply with Rio Tinto standards as well as legal requirements, including contractor pre-qualification and management audits, and providing on-site advisory support to ensure effective contractor control and HSE compliance.
- Managing HSE compliance through the development and implementation of systems aligned with both Rio Tinto standards and legal requirements. Managing individual and team performance to achieve organisational outcomes and fostering a workplace culture aligned with Rio Tinto’s Code of Conduct and “Our Way of Working”.
- Ensuring environmental and safety legal compliance, integrating plans within a broader sustainability objective.
What you’ll bring
- A workplace mindset where safety and the environment are always the number one priority.
- Formal qualifications in a relevant discipline such as hygiene, safety, environment and/or social sciences.
- Language capabilities (fluency in Spanish and English is highly regarded).
- Willingness and ability to travel to remote locations and work at high altitude.
- Significant HSE experience (10+ years) with proven achievement in managing HSE risks and compliance requirements in complex operational environments and remote workplaces.
- Substantial experience in large-scale mining and construction environments.
- Highly developed strategic thinking, operational management and project management skills, with the ability to plan, manage and deliver complex work programs, including effective management of associated resources and budgets.
- Demonstrated ability to provide strategic leadership, promoting a customer-focused, team-oriented HSE approach, and developing strong employee engagement in HSE delivery.
- High-level technical problem-solving capability when investigating and resolving complex HSE issues, with the ability to develop innovative solutions.
- Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to work productively in a multilingual and multicultural environment.
