About the role
We are looking for a Senior Project Geoscientist to join the current Angolan Greenfields exploration team and collaborate with the broader Rio Tinto Exploration (RTX) expertise to generate and progress high priority projects.
The role provides an excellent opportunity to contribute to discovery and influence our exploration in Angola through the application of high-quality geoscience, innovative thinking and collaboration
Reporting to the Project Manager and working in a collaborative community within Rio Tinto Exploration, you will:

Provide technical support by utilising geoscientific knowledge and expertise to identify high quality exploration targets.

Share and collaborate with other geoscientists to expand technical knowledge pool within the team. This will involve regular field activities including mapping, drilling, logging and sampling.

Support Generative team on target generation through the analysis of regional datasets, data collection, data integration, field reconnaissance and undertake fieldwork as required to progress exploration targets toward discovery.

Create & execute exploration work programmes to safely, efficiently and effectively test priority exploration targets.

Engage with project resources, including service providers (e.g. geophysics, drilling) within the area of responsibility.

Through a collaborative approach compile & analyse technical results with clear recommendations detailing next steps.

Compile & Analyse third party reports summarising outcomes and recommendations of exploration activities, providing your own insights on possible implications for the company.

Develop, drive and maintain value adding collaboration with internal and external multifunctional technical and operational support teams (incl. Ore Body Knowledge, Commodities, Data Science, Geo-metallurgy, Mineralogy etc) to achieve the programme’s technical milestones and ensure the project progresses timely.
About you

Bachelor’s, master’s degree in Geology, Geoscience, or related discipline.

5 – 9 years of field experience with proven track record working in development of targets in early-stage exploration projects and progressing through to drill testing and beyond.

Experience in Angolan geology and Copper deposit styles would be beneficial.

Proficiency in any of the following will be highly regarded: ArcGIS, acQuire, ioGas, Leapfrog.

Good interpersonal skills or engagement with good written and verbal communication skills. Fluency in Portuguese is required with English desirable.
