Nous sommes à la recherche d’un conseiller principal ou d’une conseillère principale, Sourcing – Chine qui travaillera à Montréal, au Québec, afin d’aider l’entreprise à ajouter de la valeur à ses établissements en déterminant et en développant des solutions de chaîne d’approvisionnement provenant du marché chinois. Une solide connaissance des affaires est requise pour être en mesure de déterminer les équivalences et les avantages d’un contenu local et d’une perspective de sourcing chinois.

Ce poste est une excellente occasion d’agir à titre d’expert(e) en favorisant l’introduction et la promotion de produits chinois dans l’entreprise en fournissant des conseils et du soutien aux partenaires d’affaires de l’Approvisionnement, aux équipes de catégorie ainsi qu’aux équipes d’entretien et des opérations, y compris en soutenant les projets majeurs. Ce travail comprend une part importante de coordination et de communication avec l’équipe Sourcing – Chine, afin de lui fournir des conseils et des informations correspondant au niveau de soutien requis.

Vous aurez un horaire professionnel normal, mais vous devrez aussi répondre à des appels et interagir en dehors des heures de bureau à cause des différents fuseaux horaires (y compris avec votre supérieur hiérarchique, le chef de service, Projets d’investissement et Sourcing – Chine, qui est basé à Perth). Vos principales responsabilités seront les suivantes :

  • Établir des relations avec l’équipe Sourcing – Chine et lui offrir du soutien lorsque des occasions se présentent pour la région Atlantique.
  • Amener les gestionnaires de catégorie, nos partenaires d’affaires et le personnel des unités d’affaires à inclure des sociétés chinoises dans notre stratégie d’approvisionnement et par la suite dans notre processus d’appel d’offres.
  • Représenter et promouvoir le sourcing en Chine dans toutes les opérations de la région Atlantique, dans l’objectif de réduire sensiblement les coûts de toutes les opérations.
  • Avoir une approche solide pour être en mesure de sortir des sentiers battus et de gagner la confiance de l’équipe de l’Atlantique.
  • Participer tôt à l’élaboration de stratégies de catégorie ou d’autres stratégies de sourcing pour avoir le temps de déterminer et de préqualifier les sociétés chinoises qui pourront soumissionner pour Rio Tinto.
  • Participer avec les partenaires d’affaires et les spécialistes du sourcing à l’évaluation des soumissions chinoises.

En plus de représenter plus de 12 % des dépenses totales gérées par RTP, elle contribue activement à la chaîne d’approvisionnement mondiale. Comme la Chine est le plus grand marché de Rio Tinto, un partenaire clé de coentreprise et un actionnaire important, l’équipe Sourcing – Chine joue un rôle clé en contribuant à réduire le déséquilibre de la balance commerciale de Rio Tinto ainsi qu’en renforçant nos relations avec nos partenaires clés afin de soutenir notre stratégie globale en Chine.

L’équipe compte plus de 30 professionnels de la chaîne d’approvisionnement spécialisés dans l’un des quatre domaines suivants : Matières premières, Matériel minier, Dépenses en immobilisation et projets majeurs, Chaîne d’approvisionnement et qualité.

Principal Advisor – China Sourcing

About the role

Finding better ways to provide the materials the world needs.

We are looking for a Principal Advisor – China Sourcing based in Montreal, Quebec to support and drive value for our operations through identifying and developing supply chain solutions from the Chinese market. It requires a mature business outlook in being able to identify tradeoffs and value points from a local content and China sourcing perspective.

This role is a great opportunity to be the Subject Matter Expert for introducing and sustaining China products to the business providing guidance and support to procurement Business Partners “BP’s”, category teams, maintenance and operational teams including sustaining and major project work. It will also require significant coordination and communication with the China sourcing team, providing guidance, and information to provide the required level of support.

Working a normal professional schedule, you will also be required to take calls and interact after hours due to global time differences (including reporting to the Manager, Capital & Projects – China Sourcing, located in Perth).  Major responsibilities include:

  • Build relationships and support from the China Sourcing team on the opportunities for the Atlantic region.
  • Influence the category managers, BPs, and business unit personnel to include Chinese companies in the sourcing strategy and subsequent bidding process.
  • Represent and be the face of China Sourcing across all the operations covered by Atlantic region with aim to deliver significant cost reduction to all operations.
  • This will require a mature approach to be able to challenge and build confidence within the Atlantic team.
  • To be involved early in the development of category or other sourcing strategies to allow time for Chinese companies to be identified, pre-qualified for bidding to Rio Tinto.
  • Support the evaluation of Chinese bids in conjunction with the BP’s and sourcing specialists.

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • A strong safety mindset – Dedication to promoting a positive safety culture
  • 8-10 years of experience and a matrix organization, applying supply chain solutions
  • Education, preferably in engineering or metallurgy
  • Ability to achieve outcomes through influence and collaboration with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Strong commercial acumen and negotiation expertise
  • Effective time management and personal organizational skills
  • A strong curiosity mindset with and emotional intelligence
  • Relationship management skills with cross cultural experience
  • Strong problem solving, strategic thinking and analytical capabilities
  • Ability to formulate and present compelling strategies and business cases.
  • Fluent in French and English, both written and spoken. Rio Tinto is a global company and the duties of this position require daily collaboration with colleagues, teams or partners based outside Quebec.

China is Rio Tinto’s largest market and home of key joint venture partner and shareholder, CS acts a key role in helping reduce Rio Tinto’s trade imbalance, enhancing relationships with key partners in support of our broader China strategy. 

The team has more than 30 supply chain professionals across 4 domains: raw materials, mining materials, capex & major projects, supply chain and quality.
