We are looking for a Human Resources (HR) Team Leader to oversee a team of HR Advisors while providing dedicated HR support to an operational department within an Aluminum Smelter and Power Station Operation. You will play a crucial role in aligning HR strategies through an experienced-focused execution of the HR Business Partner’s “People Plan” initiatives, cyclical employee processes, achievement of labour relations objectives, and providing essential support to the site’s operational leaders.

Reporting to the HR Manager People Experience – Aluminum Division, and working a Monday to Friday schedule, and supporting additionally based on operational needs, you will be:

• Working safely in accordance with Rio Tinto safety standards and cultivating the company values.
• Managing the delivery of projects and initiatives on the People Plan and providing feedback on HR policies and programs to the HR Business Partner and other internal stakeholders.
• Collaborating with HR Business Partner colleagues, area leaders, and stakeholders to develop and implement HR initiatives aligned with business plans and objectives.
• Leading and developing the performance of the advisory team in alignment with company values.
• Providing coaching to enhance effective workplace relationships and employee management skills.
• Utilizing human resource reporting and metrics to identify and resolve emerging HR issues through data-driven problem solving and decision making.
• Providing hands-on support to operational leaders, including day-to-day HR needs, while enhancing employee relations across the business to align with strategic goals.
• Contributing to the establishment of collective agreements and guiding the Collective Bargaining process.
• Participating in the joint Grievance Committee to resolve employee grievances efficiently and fairly and reporting on outcomes.

What you’ll bring

• A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team.
• Possession of a Degree and/or diploma in a related field such as Human Resources Management, Psychology, Labour Relations or Industrial Relations, or a combination of relevant education and experience.
• At least 7 years of extensive generalist HR or labour relations experience, ideally with experience in a heavy industry, natural resources, manufacturing, or other related work environment.
• Demonstrated experience leading a team.
• Excellent understanding of unionized labour relations practices and the collective bargaining process.
• Experience delivering HR projects.
• Demonstrated passion for building relationships, coaching, and striving to drive engagement through excellent communication and teamwork.
• Minimum of a valid B.C. Class 7 (Novice) driver’s license, or out-of-province equivalent.

It will also be beneficial if you have:

• Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation.

The base salary range for this role is $111,200 – $166,800 CAD in addition to allowances, bonus, equity, health or retirement benefits, and any other discretionary benefits offered at Rio Tinto. Our base salary ranges are based on role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by the skills, experience, and impact you bring to the role.
