About the role

We are looking for a Community Engagement Advisor to assist with the coordination of work across a range of activities within the Communities & Social Performance (CSP) team at Rio Tinto Iron Ore.

Reporting to the Manager Community Relations, this is a great opportunity to build strong and long-lasting relationships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders and strive to enhance company reputation through positive community interaction. You will be:

  • Regularly collating and reporting on analytics and data for the purposes of key performance indicator assessment and strategic decision making.
  • Collaborating with internal stakeholders to report on and deliver key regional initiatives
  • The front-of-house face for Rio Tinto in the Southwest Busselton office.
  • Developing and maintaining a favourable relationship with regionally based Rio Tinto employees and their families as well as the broader Southwest community.
  • Contributing to the smooth running of the Southwest regional office by undertaking both simple and complex administrative responsibilities including accounts payable.
  • Provide administration support to wider regional communities team.
  • Support and coordinate delivery of community events and activities, including management of contractors, communications developing event proposals and briefing notes and undertaking risk management.
  • Where appropriate, responding to local community and stakeholder matters.
  • Applying your professional knowledge and expertise to support the resolution of different Community Social Performance situations and challenges.
  • Supporting the dissemination of information to the local community and gathering feedback from external stakeholders.
  • Undertaking activities to maintain compliance with Rio Tinto safety, legal and other commitments and policies.
  • Supporting the identification, mitigation and management of organisational risk.
  • Supporting the planning and delivery of large-scale annual events for FIFO families.
  • Contributing to the attraction and retention of a diverse workforce by supporting strategic sourcing and recruitment activities.

What you’ll bring

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and others, creating and maintaining a safe workplace
  • C Class Driver’s Licence (WA)
  • Qualifications in Public Relations, Community Development and/or a relevant field
  • Proficiency with Microsoft office suite
  • Previous experience and knowledge of report analysis, report presentation preparation and report writing
  • Knowledge of social investment principles
  • Events and project management skills along with use of risk management tools
  • Flexibility to travel throughout regional WA if required
  • Experience working with community groups, local government and industry bodies
  • Understanding of Aboriginal culture and beliefs

Where you’ll be working

This role is based in the coastal town of Busselton in WA’s southwest region at Rio Tinto’s Busselton based office. This role will be offered day shift only, Monday to Friday, (9-day fortnight) with occasional weeknight and weekend work.

The Regional Community Engagement Team manage offices in Busselton (Southwest), Geraldton (Mid-West) and Broome (Kimberley). The team supports over 3,400 regional FIFO employees and their families along with managing a broad range of community relations and community investment partnerships in the regions.
