New Zealand’s Aluminium Smelter (NZAS), known as Tiwai, are on the look-out for curious minded individuals who want to take on a rewarding career with us! 2024 and beyond is set to be an exciting year for our teams, with activities across a range of site-based initiatives for both people and processes.
We have an opening for a High Voltage Maintainer/Rectifier Control Officer (RCO) to join our Power Supply team at NZAS, Tiwai (Invercargill). The successful applicant will be operating and maintaining NZAS high voltage assets to maximise equipment availability and minimise disruption to production lines and have an interest in working within the HV Industry.
As part of a close-knit team, initially you will work as a Tradesperson Electrical undertaking regular planned maintenance and HV Switching in a high voltage switchyard. Training to become an RCO will commence simultaneously while in the HV Electrical Maintainer role, as advised by your Supervisor. Therefore, we are looking for someone who is capable and willing to train as an RCO as required.
This position will operate on our Roster 2 shift consisting of a 4-on/4-off rotation (2 x 12-hours days, 2 x 12-hour nights, 4 days off) which attracts a generous shift allowance provision.

What you’ll bring
Requirements for this role include:
- New Zealand Electrical registration and a current practising license
- Skills in formal fault finding, diagnosis and defect elimination techniques
- A demonstrated ability to learn new concepts quickly
- Flexibility to work shift work
- Applications from Electrical Fitters and Line Mechanics will also be considered
The following would be highly desirable:
- Field experience in High Voltage industry
- Competency in use of SAP maintenance systems
- Knowledge of risk management and change recording
- Knowledge of maintenance strategies and tactics.
- Experience in the application of lean manufacturing and reliability / condition monitoring techniques
- Formal training in problem solving (e.g. Apollo Root Cause Analysis)
