About the role

The Manager, Planning & Governance, is a global role specialising in integrated planning, dependency management, annual planning, and related governance. Working closely with the ePMO team (Value & Benefits, Demand, Risk, Governance & Assurance, Resourcing).
This role ensures that programs and projects are prioritised and sequenced to align with strategic objectives, utilising the value framework. By minimising conflicts and resource contention across the technology portfolio from roadmap to implementation levels, the Manager creates a single, integrated plan known as the “Portfolio Master Schedule”.

Global Scope:
The ePMO operates across multiple regions, countries, or continents.
Strategic Alignment:
The global ePMO aligns the technology portfolio with the broader Rio Tinto strategy.
Governance and Compliance:
The PMO navigates international regulations and compliance requirements.
Collaboration and Communication:
The ePMO facilitates virtual collaboration across time zones.
Resource Allocation and Capacity Planning:
The global ePMO optimises resource allocation across regions.
Metrics and Reporting:
The ePMO tracks performance metrics consistently across global projects.

Key Accountabilities
Chapter leadership accountabilities – people development
- Develops and continuously improves the chapter with a deliberate and structured pathway for the types of projects, leveraging the people capability model.
- Provides strategic execution and operational leadership.
- Professional growth and technical expertise.
- Recruitment and Team Development.
Integrated Planning
- Establish and mature the IS&T enterprise integrated planning capability & framework in the ePMO.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive and sequenced change initiative portfolio and the associated RAIDD (Risk, Assumptions, Interdependencies, Dependencies and Decisions).
- Provide key insights, risks, opportunities and actions in line with regular governance and cadence that result from the integrated planning process
Dependency Management
- Identify and ensure interdependencies between change initiative roadmaps are managed.
- Working with Program & Product managers, minimise risks arising from dependencies.
Overall Annual Planning
- Develop the annual project plan as part of the APR process aligned with priorities.
- Ensure sufficient resource requirements identification
- Monitor progress throughout the year.
Governance
- Provide input into project management policies and guidelines.
- Ensure compliance with standards.
- Evaluate project performance.
- Define integrated planning governance processes.
- Initiate regular change initiatives audits.
- Provide guidance on project management best practices
