About the role
Rio Tinto Procurement provides supply chain services that deliver value to the Rio Tinto Group through the strategic sourcing of goods and services for all operations and businesses. Value is enabled through close collaboration with business unit stakeholders to gain a deep understanding of requirements, and then delivered through uniformed processes, e-technology, increased corporate social responsibility and measurable value delivery for the Rio Tinto Group.
We are looking for a Senior Specialist – Procurement (Program Management Office) (PMO) to provide strategic analytical support, upskilling and co-ordination of procurement activities aimed at delivering value and business improvements.
This role has a key part to play in influencing the strategic direction of our regional and global procurement teams via the role’s interactions with it’s senior and extended leadership teams. It is also a role which advocates for the procurement function during their engagements with internal stakeholders within the Rio Tinto group to bring about meaningful change, simplification and improvements.
This is a great opportunity for a strong analytically minded individual to bring their ‘sense of ownership’ mindset and commercial acumen to find the right data insights and collaborate with procurement & data specialists to translate it into efficiencies. The drive to improve coupled with effective stakeholder engagement will be key to working collectively in a large network to deliver this value sustainably.
Reporting to the Principal Advisor – Procurement, you will:
- Work in a dynamic environment to build a high level of trust through open and transparent relationships
- Support senior leadership in influencing and embedding initiatives aimed at steering the cultural journey of a large and globally spread procurement cohort
- Support leadership in their regular meetings, cadences and utilisation of their resources
- Identify, assess and implement opportunities to standardise and find new simplified but effective ways of working and process improvements
- Work with stakeholders to define and document reporting requirements and assist in co-ordinating the process of development to delivery of the final deliverable fulfilling the role of a ‘trusted advisor’
- Lead a small team of analysts to maintain and improve our suite of procurement spend and metric reports
- Co-ordinate and conduct training for stakeholders to upskill the capability and consistently in work practices across the procurement cohort
- Act as a centralised reference point and key interface point in relation to the regional and global category teams. These teams deliver end to end procurement services to Rio Tinto Iron Ore and the multiple product groups operating Rio Tinto’s assets globally
- Co-ordinate the work activities and coach other team members within the PMO team and providing the necessary training and development to deliver outcomes
- Collaborate with contract owners and Category Managers providing support by providing data and importantly insights. Then leading initiatives aimed at channelling procurement spend to automated and contracted buying channels
- Liaising with functional stakeholders across Finance, Business Transformation, Product Groups and global procurement network to align methodologies for our annual targets and procurement priorities
- Provide support to deliver ad-hoc procurement related projects or initiatives
- Provide additional support to the Principal Advisor RTP PMO in facilitating leadership workshops and presentations
What you’ll bring
To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
- A degree qualification with recent experience as an Analyst or Reporting Specialist, postgraduate qualifications or MBA highly desirable in technical or commercial disciplines
- A balanced view, strong proficiency and an aptitude which will see you enjoy presenting both your exceptional work and the work of the PMO team to stakeholders at all levels
- Strong influencing, strategic thinking, stakeholder engagement and communication capabilities
- Strong Excel technical skills
- Proven experience developing reporting dashboards using Power BI or similar is desirable but not essential
