Relevant du Directeur Général de la Santé, Sécurité et Environnement (SSE) pour la division Minéraux, ce rôle offre une excellente opportunité pour un leader expérimenté, axé sur la promotion d’un environnement bienveillant et collaboratif. La personne candidate idéale sera capable de bâtir et de cultiver une culture organisationnelle où les considérations SSE sont intégrées aux décisions d’affaires. Les principales responsabilités incluent :
- Fournir un leadership solide en SSE et un coaching environnemental spécifique à nos équipes d’opérations et de projets Minéraux pour favoriser l’amélioration et faciliter la croissance ;
- Soutenir nos efforts pour obtenir des références ESG exceptionnelles dans la division Minéraux, avec un accent sur la contribution à un avenir plus durable. Notre stratégie d’affaires et notre licence sociale pour opérer reposent sur la performance ESG ;
- Assurer une gestion efficace des risques SSE et la conformité aux normes, permis et réglementations, tout en menant des initiatives d’amélioration au sein de la division Minéraux ;
- Utiliser les données SSE pour des analyses efficaces et soutenir l’exécution des activités de gouvernance SSE au nom de la division Minéraux ;
- Fournir un soutien pour les audits de premières et deuxièmes lignes sur les sites Minéraux ;
- Effectuer des contrôles de qualité sur les incidents SSE, l’enquête sur les incidents et leur classification ;
- Améliorer la clarté, la connexion et la simplification de l’intégration SSE, clarifier les priorités et les rôles, et améliorer la performance en coordonnant l’intégration des programmes SSE du groupe RT au sein de la division Minéraux ;
- Diriger les mandats/projets environnementaux spéciaux internes et externes pour Minéraux, au besoin ;
- Favoriser des améliorations dans les résultats en matière de sécurité physique et psychosociale pour la main-d’œuvre Minéraux, y compris les contractuels.
Votre contribution
Pour réussir dans ce rôle, vous devez avoir :
- Un engagement fort envers la sécurité personnelle et celle de votre équipe ;
- Un diplôme en sciences environnementales, ingénierie, ou une expérience pertinente sur le terrain ;
- Une bonne connaissance des exigences réglementaires et des meilleures pratiques internationales en gestion environnementale ;
- 10 à 15 ans d’expertise démontrée en SSE avec une expérience dans la gestion et la direction de projets environnementaux ;
- D’excellentes compétences en leadership, travail d’équipe et relations interpersonnelles ;
- Maitriser le français et l’anglais à l’oral et à l’écrit. Rio Tinto est une entreprise mondiale et les fonctions de ce poste exigent une collaboration quotidiennement avec des collègues, des équipes ou des partenaires basés à l’extérieur du Québec ;
- Une capacité avérée à diriger et influencer par les relations ;
- La capacité de dynamiser et de coacher pour soutenir l’amélioration continue ;
- Une expérience de travail dans des environnements culturels divers ;
- Des déplacements seront nécessaires vers les sites miniers.

This position reports to the General Manager of Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) for the Minerals division, offering an excellent opportunity for a seasoned leader with a focus on fostering a caring and collaborative environment. The ideal candidate will be capable of building and nurturing an organizational culture where HSE considerations are integral to business decisions. Key responsibilities include:
- Providing strong HSE leadership and specifically environmental coaching to our Minerals operations and project teams to drive improvement and facilitate growth;
- Supporting our efforts to achieve outstanding ESG credentials in the Minerals division, with a focus on contributing to a more sustainable future. Our business strategy and social license to operate are underpinned by ESG performance;
- Ensuring effective HSE risk management and compliance with standards, permits, and regulations, and driving improvement initiatives within the Minerals division;
- Utilizing HSE data for effective analytics and supporting the execution of HSE governance activities on behalf of the Minerals division;
- Providing support for first and second line assurance at Minerals sites;
- Conducting quality control checks on HSE incidents, incident investigation, and classification;
- Improving clarity, connection, and simplification of HSE integration, clarifying priorities and roles, and enhancing performance by coordinating the integration of RT group HSE programs within the Minerals division;
- Leading internal and external environmental special mandates/projects for Minerals as needed;
- Enabling improvements in physical and psychosocial safety outcomes for the Minerals workforce, including contractors.
About you:
To succeed in this role, you will have:
- A strong commitment to personal safety and the safety of your team;
- A degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or relevant field experience;
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements and international best practices in environmental management;
- 10 to 15 years of proven expertise in HSE with experience leading and managing environmental projects;
- Excellent leadership, teamwork, and interpersonal skills;
- Fluent in French and English, both written and spoken. Rio Tinto is a global company, and the duties of this position require daily collaboration with colleagues, teams or partners based outside Quebec.
- Proven ability to lead and influence through relationship;
- Ability to energize and coach to support continuous improvement;
- Experience working in diverse cultural settings;
- Travel will be necessary to mineral sites.
