About the role
We are looking for a Principal Analyst – Market Analysis to cover maternity leave from January to October 2025. The successful candidate will generate insightful analysis with a focus on lithium supply, demand, and pricing.
Reporting to the Senior Manager – Minerals, the role includes the following:
Demand
-
Maintain, develop, and validate global and regional demand models. Establish relevant hierarchies for demand models to account for end-use industries and product preferences.

Create models where needed and maintain or improve existing models. Work with the sales team and the broader commercial team to prioritize areas of focus.

Contribute to longer-term demand discussion and trends, including battery chemistry and intensity of use analysis in various battery types.

Contribute to value-in-use analysis for different products.

Maintain and develop tracking metrics to provide leading indicators for short-medium term demand over the 0 to 3-year time horizon, as well as longer-term demand. Track and communicate metrics that cover the key regions, end-use industries, and products (e.g. trade statistics and other sector-specific indicators).

Collaborate with broader Battery Materials and Economics teams to increase intel collection.
Supply

Monitor competitors' stated strategies and objectives and compare observed behaviors and approaches to the market, including product strategies, customer mix, and supply chain analysis – collaboration is required with a wider commercial team.

Ownership of supply forecast files by competitor and product line.

Maintain and further develop competitive cost analysis in collaboration with process and geology specialists to assist with updating cost curve models and supply forecasts.

Search for information on competitors and update if necessary.

Develop a deep understanding of competitive supply chains.

Consolidate regional intel to identify competitive customer portfolios.

Monitor and track trade flows.
Pricing

Maintain a view of current market pricing together with a forecast of short-term movements.

Seek to find leading indicators that can predict short-term price movements.

Monitor industry developments and provide analysis on how various events will impact forecast prices.
What you will need for the role
To succeed in this role, you will have:
-
University degree in either a technical or commercial discipline.
-
Minimum 6 years of relevant experience within a commodity-focused MNC.
-
Managing, maintaining, and redesigning complex Excel models.
-
A strong industry network, as well as maintaining and expanding such, is essential for the success of this position.

Automated data visualization reports in Power BI.
-
Exposure to the trading environment will be an added advantage.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills (English) are essential.
