We are seeking a Lead Tester who will have the opportunity to accelerate the innovation and delivery of the different processes and products within the Digital Products team. Someone eager to have a high impact on the digital transformation journey we are currently on.
The physical autonomy projects supply automation and management of mining equipment and processes used in Rio Tinto’s iron ore business. These projects provide improved safety reliability and data from the mining processes.
Responsibilities
The Lead Tester will be an integral part of a Scrum Team, taking responsibility for the management of the testing activities within a product and providing technical leadership to testers.

Developing and implementing of the end-to-end Test Strategy for the physical autonomy projects.

Developing the Test Plans in line with the Test Strategy, project release plan and delivery methodology.

Developing Test Cases traced to requirements and design documents, including detailed test steps, data requirements, pre-requisites and success criteria.

Conducting functional testing on individual systems based on documented Test Cases and analyse results.

Coordinating with Application Developers, Business Analysts, SMEs, 3rd party vendors and other stakeholders to review test artefacts and defects to ensure rapid review and resolution of documents and defects.

Facilitating defect triage meetings.

Monitoring software performance and reporting issues.

Undertaking and/or participating in Integration, Interface, Regression, End-to-End and User Acceptance testing activities.

Leading small team of testers to deliver testing outcomes.
Additional scope includes:
Oversees the planning of the automation system and acceptance tests and co-ordinates the execution of these plans.
Takes responsibility for early life-cycle validation and verification.
Takes responsibility for the production and approval of testing deliverables and achievement of testing milestones during a product lifecycle.
Co-ordinates all activities and all testers for all testing activities during the Product lifecycle.
Co-operates with users and senior staff as required to agree the testing strategy to be employed for the Product.
Maintains awareness of testing alternatives at a level where they can be analysed, and the most effective testing strategy selected and agreed, and advocates for shift left testing.
Directs and carries out investigations to assess and advise on the practicality of testing process alternatives.
Ensures that any risks associated with test strategy and the system test plan are clearly documented and described to the users and colleagues.
Manages all risks associated with the testing and takes preventative action when any risks become unacceptable.
Provides authoritative advice and guidance to colleagues on any aspect of test planning and execution.
Monitors quality and performance against agreed criteria to ensure the quality of the outcomes.
Coaches colleagues in developing target skills and capabilities in line with team and personal goals.
About you
Essential
-
Bachelor’s degree level or holds a relevant professional qualification, I.e. Bachelor of IT, Computer Science, Software Engineering etc.

Experience in test automation and test framework development (at least 5 years).

Automation testing experience in both frontend and backend (DB, API).

Expertise in automation frameworks (types, structure, components).
-
Expertise in automation reporting tools.

Ability to understand both technical and business requirements.

Good knowledge of BDD.
-
Agile process knowledge and experience, including estimation and planning.
-
Knowledge of testing techniques used to plan and execute software tests of all application components (functional and non-functional).

Knowledge of test metrics and test result analysis tools.
-
Strong analytical abilities and troubleshooting skills.
-
Strong knowledge in SQL both relational and non-relational.

Knowledge of version control systems.

Experience with test management and reporting tools (Eg. Jira/Azure DevOps).

Knowledge with Azure DevOps pipelines to set up automated builds and enable CI/CD.

Familiar with designing software for performance and scalability.

An excellent coach and team leader, a fast learner with a growth mindset and excellent interpersonal skills.
