La technologie ELYSIS™ représente la plus grande avancée dans l’industrie de l’aluminium depuis 1886. Des efforts sont présentement déployés afin de perfectionner cette nouvelle façon révolutionnaire de produire de l’aluminium, qui élimine le dioxyde de carbone et toutes les autres émissions de gaz à effet de serre du procédé conventionnel d’électrolyse.

Le procédé ELYSIS élimine l’utilisation d’anodes de carbone, en les remplaçant par des matériaux brevetés. En tant que premier procédé industriel qui émet de l’oxygène comme sous-produit, il a le potentiel de transformer toute l’industrie.

En 2018, deux producteurs d’aluminium de calibre international, Alcoa et Rio Tinto, ont uni leurs forces afin de créer la coentreprise ELYSIS avec le gouvernement du Québec. Bénéficiant du soutien du gouvernement du Canada et d’Apple, la technologie progresse et elle est actuellement conçue pour être utilisée aussi bien dans des projets de construction que de modernisation d’alumineries. ELYSIS a son siège social à Montréal, avec des centres de recherche et de développement à Alma et à Jonquière, au Québec (Canada), ainsi qu’à New Kensington, en Pennsylvanie (États-Unis) et en France.

Du métal de qualité commerciale produit par ELYSIS dans nos installations R&D et au centre de développement industriel est déjà utilisé par Apple dans un éventail de produits (comme le MacBook Pro 16 po et l’iPhone SE), par AB InBev (canettes) et par Audi (roues du e-tron GT, fabriquées par le RONAL Group).

À propos du poste

Nous sommes à la recherche d’un technicien construction cuve (brasquage) pour concevoir, construire et tester les nouveaux designs de revêtements de cuve (c’est-à-dire les assemblages de matériaux réfractaires et carbonés formant le creuset cathodique des cuves d’électrolyse). Il s’agit d’une excellente occasion pour une personne autonome, dynamique, attirée par les sujets techniques et aimant la diversité de missions.

Nous formons une équipe internationale ouverte et connectée de spécialistes techniques, utilisant des données et des outils parmi les plus stimulants au monde.

Nos programmes de développement technique sont à la pointe de l’industrie et tiennent compte de la nature unique de chaque poste. Ils vous permettent de progresser dans votre carrière en suivant un cheminement technique adapté et d’être reconnu pour vos compétences particulières.

Principales activités et responsabilités

  • Être un acteur proactif dans la gestion des aspects Santé Sécurité Environnement (SSE)
  • Rédiger les spécifications de conception et d'intégration de technologies (package technologique), donner les directives au service Ingénierie pour l’établissement des plans de brasquage et d’outillage
  • Participer à l’amélioration des installations ou des équipements existants
  • Préparer et superviser des chantiers de construction des cuves au Saguenay
  • Réaliser des tests de matériaux depuis la préparation jusqu’à la rédaction des rapports de performance en passant par la mise en œuvre, ceci en lien avec les fournisseurs de matériaux et d’équipements
  • Assister nos clients par exemple par la réalisation de missions d’autopsie, d’installations ou d’audits
  • À l’occasion, déplacement aux bureaux de Montréal
  • À l’occasion, assurer des missions courtes en France

À propos de vous

Pour que votre candidature soit prise en considération, les exigences sont les suivantes :

  • Disposer d’une expérience concrète en brasquage (ATOUT MAJEUR RECHERCHÉ)
  • Diplôme d’études collégiales techniques en génie civil
  • Avoir un minimum de 15 années d’expérience dans un milieu industriel
  • Connaissance du secteur de l’aluminium (atout)
  • Être autonome, rigoureux et doté d’une bonne capacité de synthèse
  • Être à l’aise de travailler dans un environnement dynamique et en constante évolution
  • Avoir un esprit innovant, faire preuve de curiosité avec un désir d’apprendre
  • Aimer la résolution de problèmes et identifier les leçons apprises
  • Être capable de rédiger des documents et des rapports techniques de manière claire et concise
  • Être capable d’influencer ses pairs et ses leaders techniques en donnant des avis techniques solides dans le cadre de projets et d'activités quotidiennes
  • Aimer travailler en équipe et avoir l’approche relationnelle adaptée pour collaborer avec des interlocuteurs variés, y compris à l’international

A New Era for the Aluminium Industry — ELYSIS

Carbon Free Aluminium

The ELYSIS™ technology is the greatest breakthrough in the aluminium industry since its beginnings in 1886. Work is underway now to further develop this revolutionary new way to produce aluminium, eliminating carbon dioxide and all other greenhouse gas emissions from the traditional smelting process.

The ELYSIS process eliminates the use of carbon anodes, replacing those with proprietary materials. It is the first industrial process that emits oxygen as its by-product and has the potential to transform an entire industry.

In 2018, two international aluminium producers, Alcoa and Rio Tinto, came together to form the ELYSIS joint venture with the provincial government of Québec. With support from the Canadian Government and Apple, the technology is progressing and is currently being designed to support the construction of new smelters or retrofits.

ELYSIS is headquartered in Montréal, with Technology Research & Development locations in Alma, Québec, (Canada), in Jonquière, Québec, (Canada), in New Kensington, Pennsylvania, (United States), and in France.

Commercial quality metal produced by ELYSIS in our R&D facilities and industrial development center is already being used by Apple in a variety of products (The 16-inch MacBook Pro and the iPhone SE); Ab InBEV (cans) and Audi (e-tron GT wheels produced by the RONAL Group).

About the position

We are looking for a Potlining Technician to design, build, and test new pot lining designs (i.e., assemblies of refractory and carbon materials forming the cathodic crucible of electrolysis pots). This is an excellent opportunity for an independent, dynamic individual who is interested in technical topics and enjoys a variety of tasks.

We form an open and connected international team of technical specialists, using some of the most challenging data and tools in the world.

Our technical development programs are at the forefront of the industry and take into account the unique nature of each position. They allow you to advance in your career by following a tailored technical pathway and being recognized for your specific skills.

Key Activities / Responsibilities:

  • Be a proactive player in managing Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) aspects
  • Write design specifications and technology integration specifications (technology package), providing guidelines to the Engineering department for the development of potlining drawings and tools
  • Participate in the improvement of existing facilities or equipment
  • Prepare and oversee construction projects for pots in Saguenay
  • Conduct material testing from preparation to performance report writing, including implementation, in collaboration with material and equipment suppliers
  • Assist our clients, for example, by conducting autopsy missions, installations, or audits
  • Occasionally travel to the Montreal office
  • Occasionally undertake short assignments to France

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • Have concrete experience in potlining (MAJOR ASSET REQUIRED)
  • Hold a college diploma in civil engineering
  • Have a minimum of 15 years of experience in an industrial environment
  • Knowledge of the aluminum sector (asset)
  • Be autonomous, rigorous, and possess strong synthesis skills
  • Be comfortable working in a dynamic and constantly evolving environment
  • Have an innovative mindset, demonstrate curiosity, and possess a desire to learn
  • Enjoy problem-solving and identifying lessons learned
  • Be able to write documents and technical reports clearly and concisely
  • Be capable of influencing peers and technical leaders by providing solid technical advice in projects and daily activities
  • Enjoy teamwork and possess the relational skills needed to collaborate with various stakeholders, including internationally
  • Fluent in French and English, both written and spoken. Our organization is a global company, and the duties of this position require daily collaboration with colleagues, teams, and partners based outside Quebec.
