We are looking for a Superintendent – Asset Management to effectively manage a technical team of maintenance planners & reliability / maintenance engineers to deliver Asset Reliability to the Concentrator assets. This is a critical role on the Integrated Operations team where the selected candidate will have the opportunity to overview the Concentrator area. This role will be based in Labrador City. This is a great opportunity for a driven and engaging leader to manage team performance in this dynamic department.

Reporting to the Manager – Asset Management and working in an exciting and unique environment within the Iron Ore Company of Canada, you will be responsible for:

  • Effective implementation of the Rio Tinto Asset Management strategy for the Concentrator. This will involve working closely with the execution teams (operations and maintenance) to ensure the assets are maintained at the required level to support IOC’s business objectives.
  • Effective leadership for the Concentrator Asset Management team by setting clear expectations, providing feedback and establishing an effective team process.
  • Coaching, directing and monitoring Planners, Maintenance and Reliability Engineers to successfully develop quality maintenance plans and provide technical support for maintenance execution including QA/QC consistent with established health, safety and environment standards.
  • Establishing an effective succession plan for the Asset Management team and ensure adequate resources are recruited and developed to ensure the sustainable implementation of the Rio Tinto Asset Management Strategy.
  • Building annual and five-year shutdown schedules for major equipment outages and seek budget approvals as per the asset management process.
  • Working closely with the Planning and Integrated Operations teams to produce optimized maintenance schedules which optimize IOC’s value chain on a weekly, three months rolling, annual and five-year time arisen.
  • Reviewing, challenging and leading activities for the purpose of optimizing maintenance strategies and work execution processes for short, medium and long term equipment maintenance.
  • Developing and maintaining strong working relationships with the Maintenance and Operations teams to ensure effective communications and alignment of maintenance and production activities.
  • Supporting and enabling the establishing health, safety and environment standards within Concentrator teams.
  • Preparing maintenance budgets and determining forecasts, capital plans and equipment replacement strategies based upon the tactics to achieve the required asset reliability and Criticality.
  • Utilizing business improvement techniques and activities to improve department & business performance.

What you’ll bring

  • 5-10 years of relevant Asset Management experience
  • Prior leadership experience and ability to coach, mentor and develop people
  • Strong communication skill (written and verbal)
  • Good understanding and application of the Rio Tinto Asset Management Strategy
  • Knowledge of SAP and MS Office applications – MS-Excel, MS-Word, MS-Project
  • A Bachelor’s degree or Trade Certification in a relevant field will be considered an asset (Mechanical or Electrical preferred)
  • Proficiency in English; basic knowledge of French would be considered an asset

Where you’ll be working

We are a leading North American producer and exporter of premium iron ore pellets and high-grade concentrate with average iron grades greater than 66%. With a team of over 2,700 employees, IOC is committed to providing value and continuity for our customers, employees, communities and shareholders through our unique mine to port approach, taking advantage of our full integration and wholly owned infrastructure to deliver our high-quality concentrate and pellets to our customers across the globe.  ​

IOC’s operations include a mine with five operational pits, a concentrator and a pelletizing plant located near Labrador City in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador.  We also operate a wholly-owned 418 km railway, the Quebec North Shore and Labrador Railway (QNS&L), that links our Labrador operations to Company-owned port facilities in Sept-Iles. ​
