Nous réalisons des études de haute qualité qui corroborent des propositions fiables tant sur le plan des affaires que de l’investissement. Elles servent à éclairer la prise de décisions stratégiques de l’entreprise dans le cadre de ses projets majeurs. C’est votre chance de vous joindre à nous pour façonner l’avenir de Rio Tinto.

Nous sommes à la recherche d’un ou d’une Responsable, Études qui aurait pour premier mandat de diriger l’un de nos projets de traitement des résidus miniers. Il s’agit d’une excellente occasion d’apporter une contribution précieuse à l’équipe des études dans l’est de l’Amérique et de prendre part aux activités de l’équipe centralisée des études à l’échelle mondiale.

Basé dans notre bureau central de Montréal, ce poste implique un rythme de 5 jours de travail pour 2 jours de repos et des déplacements fréquents sur les sites d’exploitation et, de temps à autre, à l’étranger.

Vous dirigerez les trois phases d’étude – ordre de grandeur, préfaisabilité et faisabilité – pour des projets dont la valeur dépasse 250 millions de dollars US. Vous serez également responsable des activités de réalisation des études :

  • Travailler en partenariat avec nos groupes de produits et nos fournisseurs afin d’obtenir les meilleurs résultats pour Rio Tinto.

  • Diriger les différentes parties intégrées à la réalisation des projets en cultivant constamment l’esprit d’une équipe unique.

  • Trouver de meilleures façons d’exécuter l’étude et le projet.

  • Fournir des conseils et un encadrement aux disciplines contribuant à l’étude.

  • Veiller à ce que l’étude soit exécutée conformément aux lignes directrices et au plan d’exécution de Rio Tinto.

  • Trouver les leviers clés de la conception qui permettront d’obtenir les meilleurs résultats pour l’entreprise.

  • Trouver les meilleures options et faire des recommandations aux décideurs de Rio Tinto.

  • Détecter, évaluer et atténuer les risques liés au projet tout en repérant et en concrétisant les opportunités.

  • Assurer une gestion sans faille du champ d’application, des risques, du calendrier et des dépenses d’investissement tout au long du cycle de l’étude.

  • Définir les caractéristiques de l’étude : portée, plans d’exécution, budgets et calendriers.

  • Surveiller la progression de l’étude et gérer proactivement tout écart.

  • Remettre en question le champ d’application, les estimations, le calendrier et d’autres facteurs en vue d’obtenir de meilleurs résultats.

  • Présenter les résultats de l’étude et les recommandations lors de réunions de comités directeurs, d’évaluations par les pairs ou d’audits.

  • Produire des rapports mensuels de grande qualité, et ce, dans les délais voulus.

  • Contribuer à la préparation des documents d’approbation de projet et des présentations à l’intention de la haute direction.

Votre contribution

  • Esprit d’équipe

  • Excellentes compétences en gestion des parties prenantes et capacité d’influencer les autres

  • Aptitudes pour la vulgarisation de notions complexes

  • Capacité à composer avec l’ambiguïté et à diriger une équipe dans de telles circonstances

  • Solide mentalité axée sur la sécurité, en particulier sur le plan de la conception des tâches et du repérage des risques

  • Expérience en matière d’exploitation, de gestion de la maintenance, de mise en service ou de construction

  • Expérience de leadership confirmée (plus de 10 ans)

  • Diplôme en ingénierie

  • Sens des affaires

  • Capacités avérées pour la gestion de l’ambiguïté et le maintien de la progression de l’équipe pendant des périodes de changement important

  • Habileté dans la gestion de ses priorités de travail, et dans le respect des délais et des budgets

  • Capacité à faire la promotion de l’équité, de la diversité et de l’inclusion

  • Bilinguisme (français et anglaise)

About the role

We deliver high quality studies that support solid investible business propositions and provide valuable input to Rio Tinto strategic decisions making in Major Projects. We are seeking an outstanding manager that would start by leading one of our Major Projects. The successful candidate will also be a valuable contributing member to the East America Studies team and will participate in the Global Centralized Study team activities.

Based in our Montreal hub Office, you will be working on a 5 days on / 2 days off with a requirement to frequently travel to operating sites and from time to time internationally.

You will lead studies from Order of Magnitude (OoM) to Prefeasibility (PFS) and to Feasibility (FS) on projects valued above 250 M US$ and will be accountable for the study delivery activities which includes:

  • Partner with our product groups and suppliers to deliver the best outcome for Rio Tinto

  • Lead an Integrated Project Delivery Team and relentlessly foster a one Team culture.

  • Find better ways to execute the study and the project.

  • Provide guidance and leadership to disciplines contributing to the study.

  • Ensure the study is executed according to RT guidelines and execution plan.

  • Find the key levers in the design that will drive the best business outcomes.

  • Find the best options and make recommendations to Rio Tinto decision makers.

  • Identify, evaluate, and mitigate project risks and identify and deliver opportunities.

  • Rigorous scope, risk, schedule, and CAPEX management through the study cycle

  • Establish study: scope, execution plans, budgets, and schedules.

  • Monitor study progress and proactively manage deviations.

  • Challenge scope, estimates, schedule, and others to drive better outcomes.

  • Present study results and recommendations at steering committees, peer reviews and audit teams reviews

  • Ensure high quality monthly reports produced on time.

  • Contribute to and supporting the preparation of project approval papers and presentations for senior management consideration.

Rio Tinto's Development & Technology (D&T) group works closely with individual Rio Tinto Product Groups worldwide, providing a range of support and service functions, to ensure technical optimization, establish and transfer best practices, develop strategies to drive performance improvements, and ensure that technical innovation provides a source of long-term competitive advantage.

D&T has established a centralized Studies team within Rio Tinto Projects that is divided geographically across the globe. The East America team is currently executing multiple studies

for our Aluminum and Mineral product group. This team is accountable for delivering Order of Magnitude, Prefeasibility and Feasibility Studies for Growth, plant rehabilitation and Closure projects across the globe. In this role you will report to the Program Manager of a life extension project.

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • A Team player mindset

  • Executive storyteller than can explain complex thing simply.

  • Excellent written communication skills.

  • Able to deal with ambiguity and led a team through it.

  • Strong safety mindset especially in safety in design and risk identifications.

  • Experience in either operation, maintenance management, commissioning, or construction.

  • Proven leadership experience with 10 + years of experience

  • An Engineering degree

  • Business savvy

  • Proven history of managing ambiguity and maintaining team progress during periods of significant change;

  • Set priorities for own work and meet deadlines and budgets.

  • Promote, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusivity

  • Fluency in French and English.

The following is considered an asset:

  • Member of the Order of Engineers of Quebec

  • Surface mining, and/or other heavy industrial experience

  • Green energy Projects

  • Geotechnical, Civil or Tailings experience
