La décarbonation de l’industrie de l’acier d’aujourd’hui et de demain est appelée à modifier la chaîne d’approvisionnement en minerai de fer telle que nous la connaissons. Les 20 prochaines années verront le changement le plus important et le plus rapide dans la technologie de fabrication du fer et de l’acier que l’industrie ait connu depuis des décennies. Le fait de positionner Rio Tinto comme un chef de file en matière de durabilité est essentiel à la réalisation de nos ambitions, de notre stratégie et de notre programme de croissance. L’équipe Décarbonation de l’acier est à l’avant-garde de cette démarche et définira les voies à suivre pour le minerai de fer de Rio Tinto dans le contexte d’un avenir décarboné.

La mission de l’équipe Décarbonation de l’acier de Rio Tinto (RTSD) est de :

  • protéger la valeur à long terme du minerai de fer de Rio Tinto grâce au développement et à la mise à l’échelle de technologies rentables utilisant notre minerai de fer dans la future industrie de l’acier faible en carbone;
  • positionner Rio Tinto de sorte que l’entreprise puisse participer au marché naissant du fer vert;
  • fournir des analyses et des informations sur la décarbonation de l’acier pour soutenir les décisions concernant le futur portefeuille de ressources en minerai de fer de Rio Tinto, sa stratégie visant les produits et le développement des énergies renouvelables.

Relevant du directeur général, Décarbonation de l’acier – Atlantique, la personne titulaire aura les responsabilités suivantes :

  • Améliorer et façonner en permanence la trame narrative en matière de décarbonation de l’acier, en synthétisant les informations externes et internes et en démontrant l’alignement entre nos aspirations et les attentes dynamiques du marché et des clients.
  • Participer à des réunions internes comme externes afin d’évaluer diverses occasions de partenariat et de faire avancer l’exécution des projets de fer faible en carbone.
  • Traduire l’évolution des tendances du marché, la veille concurrentielle et les opportunités émergentes en idées stratégiques essentielles susceptibles d’étayer notre stratégie et notre trame narrative.
  • Contribuer à faire avancer notre programme avec clairvoyance et détermination.
  • Collaborer avec les principales parties prenantes afin de définir et d’évaluer les possibilités de croissance. Soutenir les équipes de projet en vue d’évaluer les nouveaux marchés, partenariats et modèles pouvant contribuer à la réalisation de notre objectif stratégique.
  • Diriger de manière indépendante diverses initiatives liées à la décarbonation de l’acier, en veillant à une gestion efficace des projets et à l’obtention des résultats dans les délais impartis.
  • Collaborer avec les hauts dirigeants et les parties prenantes pour recueillir des informations et des commentaires et dégager un consensus autour des initiatives stratégiques, en favorisant l’alignement et la collaboration.
  • Travailler étroitement avec les équipes régionales et les parties prenantes pour préparer les documents nécessaires aux processus et cycles annuels de planification et de production de rapports, y compris le rapport annuel et le rapport sur le changement climatique.
  • Soutenir l’organisation d’ateliers stratégiques clés, en offrant votre expertise pour façonner la trajectoire des efforts de notre équipe.
  • Travailler de près avec les services de la communication, du marketing et de la marque afin d’élaborer des supports de communication pour nos projets clés. Veiller à ce que nous disposions d’un résumé convaincant de nos projets clés, de leur valeur et de leurs étapes importantes.
  • Préparer des documents succincts et bien rédigés afin de communiquer efficacement les mises à jour des projets, les décisions clés et les analyses de rentabilité à l’équipe de direction, aux responsables des programmes et au conseil d’administration, selon les besoins.

Votre contribution

Pour que votre candidature soit prise en considération, les exigences sont les suivantes :

  • Formation supérieure
  • Au moins 5 ans d’expérience progressive en analyse de marché, en stratégie, en recherche ou dans un domaine lié aux ventes et au marketing
  • Expérience dans un environnement de marchandises en vrac
  • Solides compétences analytiques, doublées d’aptitudes en matière de présentation
  • Assurance et orientation sur les résultats
  • Capacité d’influencer les parties prenantes de haut niveau dans son secteur de travail et de collaborer avec elles

Atouts :

  • Expérience préalable de consultation en recherche et analyse de l’empreinte carbone de l’industrie de l’acier
  • Expérience préalable de l’industrie du minerai de fer, du fer et de l’acier, idéalement dans la région de l’Asie

About the role

Finding better ways to provide the materials the world needs.

The decarbonisation of the steel industry between now and future is likely to change the iron ore supply chain as we know it. The next 20 years will see the largest and fastest change in iron and steelmaking technology the industry has seen in decades. Positioning Rio Tinto as sustainability leaders is key in realising our ambitions, strategy and growth agenda. The Steel Decarbonisation team is at the forefront of this and will shape pathways for Rio Tinto’s iron ores in a decarbonised iron and steelmaking future.

The purpose of the Rio Tinto Steel Decarbonisation (RTSD) team is to:

  • Protect the long-term value of Rio Tinto’s iron ore through development and scale up of cost-effective technologies that utilise our iron ores in the future low-carbon steel industry
  • To position Rio Tinto to participate in the nascent green iron market, and
  • To provide steel decarbonisation analysis and intelligence to support decisions on Rio Tinto’s future iron ore resource portfolio, product strategy, and renewable energy development.

We are recruiting for a Senior Advisor Strategy Steel Decarbonisation to join our team in Montreal!
 

Reporting to the GM Steel Decarbonisation Atlantic, you will:

  • Continuously enhance and shape the Steel Decarbonisation narrative by synthesising external and internal insights and demonstrating alignment between our aspirations and the dynamic landscape of market and customer expectations.
  • Participate in internal and external meetings to assess different partnership opportunities and progress the delivery of the low carbon iron projects
  • Translate evolving market trends, competitive intelligence and emergent opportunities into pivotal strategic insights that inform our strategy and narrative.
  • Contribute to driving our programme forward with foresight and purpose.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to pinpoint and assess potential avenues of growth. Support project teams to assess new markets, partnerships and models that help achieve our strategic objective
  • Independently lead various initiatives related to steel decarbonisation, ensuring effective project management and timely delivery of outcomes.
  • Engage with senior leaders and stakeholders to gather inputs, seek feedback, and build consensus around strategic initiatives, fostering alignment and collaboration.
  • Work closely with regional teams and stakeholders to prepare materials for annual planning and reporting processes and cycles, including Annual Report and Climate Change Report etc
  • Provide support in orchestrating key strategic workshops, offering your expertise to shape the trajectory of our team's endeavors.
  • Work closely with communications, marketing, and branding to development communication collateral for our key projects. Ensuring we have a compelling summary of our key projects, their value and milestones.
  • Develop succinct and well written papers to effectively communicate project updates, key decisions, and business cases to the Executive Team, Programme Sponsors and Board as required.

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • Tertiary education
  • At least 5 years of progressive experience across market analysis, strategy, research, or sales and marketing related.
  • Experienced in bulk commodity environment
  • Strong analytical skills, in tandem with presentation abilities
  • Assertive and results driven
  • Able to influence and work with senior stakeholders within one’s area of work 

It will also be beneficial if you have:

  • Prior focus/consulting experience in researching and understanding the carbon footprint of steel industry 
  • Prior iron ore and iron and steel industry exposure, ideally in the Asian region
  • Knowledge in various steel making techniques
  • Experienced in data analytics
