About the role

We are looking for an experienced Specialist Structural Engineer, to join the Fixed Plant Engineering department at Rio Tinto.

This unique opportunity will provide subject matter expert advice in the area of expertise to ensure safe, cost effective and reliable asset operation through an asset’s entire lifecycle.

Reporting to the Principal, your duties will include:

• Providing specialised technical support and assurance to maintenance, operations, project and commercial teams for whole of life of structural assets

• Technical ownership of RTIO internal standards and guidance notes

• Supporting and monitoring the implementation of and compliance to engineering standards/performance standards

• Communicate business risk for structural assets and prioritise remediation works, linking in all stakeholders.

• Support and improve the design and implementation of the structural integrity program and asset management of structures

• Identifying improvement opportunities within asset reliability, asset management systems and processes

• Collaborating with Business Units and Sites to share learnings / support replication opportunities

• Reviewing Management of Change, changes to maintenance systems and tactics

• Coaching, mentoring and training to build capability within sites and other team members

What you’ll bring

• Committed to ensuring the safety of yourself and your team

• Significant knowledge and experience in your field, with the ability to solve problems using established procedures

• Relevant tertiary qualification / degree within Engineering

• Ability to present complex subject matter to non-specialist stakeholders in a clear and engaging way

• Support and guide non-specialist team members to build capability and confidence

• Ability to work effectively with moderate guidance while taking initiative where needed

• A valid C Class Manual Driver’s Licence is required

Where you’ll be working

This role is being offered on a standard 5 days on, 2 days off Perth based working roster and will be based at our state of the art, Operations Centre, nearby the Perth Airport.

Our integrated iron ore network is supported by our Operations Centre (OC) in Perth, a state-of-the-art facility that enables all the autonomous trucks, trains and drills at our mines, ports and rail systems to be operated from a single location. The Centre incorporates visualisation and collaboration tools to provide real-time information across our demand chain and allows us to optimise our mining, maintenance and logistic activities across the Pilbara in a way never before possible.

Located near the Perth domestic airport, the OC operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to coordinate our integrated network of mines, rail, and ports from 1,500km away.
