We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to work within Engineering Technical Services team and be responsible for providing oversight on detailed engineering performed by the contractors and other specialist engineering service providers. Reporting to the Superintendent, Discipline Engineering, you will:

• Provide oversight of the mechanical aspects of the engineering work scope through the project life cycle, while considering safety, quality, cost and production

• Maintain relationships with customers to understand their needs and improve delivery of engineering services

• Help to identify engineering solutions to address operational requests which sustain or improve the business using a combination of internal and external resources as needed

• Mentor junior staff, providing guidance and supervising work to assist in their professional and personal development and ensure quality of work and deadlines are met

• Ensure consistent application of project engineering standards and Quality Assurance processes across multiple engineering and procurement packages

• Collaborate and consult effectively with Engineering Consultant and the construction management team to ensure constructability is considered during project design

What you’ll bring

• Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent. Master will be an asset.

• A member of the Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador (PEGNL)or from another province.

• Solid experience in the mining or mineral processing industries,

• Must be proficient in English, both written and verbal. Proficiency in French is an asset

• Technical knowledge of Quality Assurance and Quality Control

• Strong communication skills and Customer-oriented professional

Where you’ll be working​

We are a leading North American producer and exporter of premium iron ore pellets and high-grade concentrate with average iron grades greater than 66%. With a team of over 2,700 employees, IOC is committed to providing value and continuity for our customers, employees, communities and shareholders through our unique mine to port approach, taking advantage of our full integration and wholly owned infrastructure to deliver our high-quality concentrate and pellets to our customers across the globe.  ​

IOC’s operations include a mine with five operational pits, a concentrator and a pelletizing plant located near Labrador City in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador.  We also operate a wholly-owned 418 km railway, the Quebec North Shore and Labrador Railway (QNS&L), that links our Labrador operations to Company-owned port facilities in Sept-Iles. ​
