About the Role
The Principal Advisor Medical is responsible for providing technical governance and strategic oversight of clinical, occupational health, and corporate compliance within Simfer’s health programs. This role ensures that primary and emergency medical care for project personnel meets the highest standards of safety, quality, and regulatory compliance. Additionally, the Principal Advisor Medical will build and maintain strong partnerships with government agencies, industry stakeholders, and community health organizations to enhance health outcomes and support Simfer’s broader social and corporate responsibility objectives.
Key Responsibilities will include:

Define the medical standards, practices and systems necessary to ensure a high standard of care is provided to Project personnel. This includes healthcare, emergencies, occupational health, travel health, infectious and tropical diseases.

Establish governance and assurance systems necessary to ensure the effective delivery of the medical and health services

Participate in the development of clinical information systems and electronic medical records to allow proper utilization of clinical data and feedback to physicians regarding practice patterns and performance; and ensuring protection of confidential data

Determine the required capabilities and design of the medical services, both external and in-house. This includes functional requirements of facilities, equipment specifications and personnel qualifications and capabilities

Endorse the purchase and inventory of necessary drugs, medical supplies, laboratory equipment, and medical support equipment.

Review CV’s and placement of the medical staff, ensuring proper skills and requirements are met.

Oversight of the health care services provided to the Project by the contracted medical services provider(s)

Review progress and activity reports, develop and monitor KPI’s, assesses implementation effectiveness, and determine areas of improvement.

Periodic technical evaluation of the medical services contract
-
Collaborate with Simfer teams to ensure alignment between occupational health, industrial hygiene and community health programs and to determine the programs needed for the monitoring and risk-based control of both the work environment and the workforce’s health.

Ensure epidemiological monitoring and associated mitigation programs (Ebola, Cholera, Lassa, etc.).

Where required, coordinate the medical review (diagnosis, treatment and evacuation) of serious incidents

Ensure the Project has appropriate medical surveillance, injury management and return to work processes

Ensure the Simfer Medical and emergency services strategy is relevant and up to date
-
Ensure an effective emergency medical evacuation response plan (preparedness and response), including review medevac effectiveness.

Develop and implement the Infectious diseases management plan

Provide the medical input into the Mass Casualty Plan

Ensure effective monitoring and surveillance (detection and analysis) on emerging risks and opportunities (e.g., disease outbreaks, new technologies) and provide strategic direction as required

Develop and implement plans to address public health concerns following the activation of surveillance systems for biological and chemical agents.

Provide adequate medical ethics and technical advice for compensation processes, health benefits packages, and work schedules to support worker’s healthcare a healthy lifestyle.

Mentor, train and support the development of high performing National professionals, to provide a legacy of experience for the safe operation of Simandou in the future

Develop and maintain relationships with the local, regional and national actors in the Guinean healthcare system.

Ensure appropriate communications with local health departments to support the exchange of key information and rapid assessment, analysis, and reporting of health-related emergencies.
What you'll bring:

Tertiary qualification in medical discipline

10-15 years of experience in developing large-scale construction projects would be desirable

Fluency in English and French is essential

À propos du Projet Simandou Sud
Le projet de minerai de fer de Simandou (Blocs 3 & 4) est situé en République de Guinée, en Afrique de l'Ouest. Il s’agit d’un gisement de minerai de fer de haute qualité et de classe mondiale et représente l'une des plus grandes réserves connues de minerai de fer au monde.
Le projet Simandou Sud opère dans le cadre de la coentreprise Simfer où le gouvernement de Guinée détient 15 %, Rio Tinto et Chinalco Iron Ore Holdings (CIOH) , qui détiennent respectivement 45,05 % et 39,95 % de Simandou, continuent de travailler avec le gouvernement Guinéen pour explorer les options permettant de valoriser le gisement de minerai de fer de Simandou, ainsi que des mécanismes potentiels de collaboration sur les infrastructures requises au développement du Projet et aux opérations minières.

Votre milieu de travail
Le projet est détenu par Simfer S.A., coentreprise entre Rio Tinto (45,05 %), Chinalco (39,95 %) et le gouvernement de la Guinée (15 %). Rio Tinto est l’exploitant désigné des blocs 3 et 4 de Simandou. Ces blocs, situés dans les montagnes de Simandou, représentent l’un des plus importants gisements inexploités de minerai de fer à haute teneur actuellement, avec des ressources indiquées dépassant 1,7 milliard de tonnes.
La mine créera plusieurs milliers d’emplois directs et indirects, avec une valeur économique se chiffrant dans les milliards de dollars au cours de sa durée de vie estimée. Simandou sera également un moteur de croissance économique et s’appuiera sur les meilleures pratiques en vue d’assurer un milieu de travail sûr, durable et respectueux de l’environnement. Le minerai de fer issu de la mine sera utilisé pour fabriquer des produits essentiels dont la société moderne dépend, notamment des véhicules électriques, des infrastructures d’énergie renouvelable, des immeubles et des ponts.
