About the role
We are looking for a Principal Advisor – Value in Use (Copper) who will present an exceptional opportunity for a seasoned professional to elevate the VIU capabilities of our Copper product group. Your expertise will prove invaluable in enhancing the proposition, information, and tools necessary for realizing optimal value for our copper concentrate products for our business and our customers. You will perform VIU analysis to deliver timely and precise guidance on the placement and relative value of various copper concentrate products to key internal and external stakeholders.
Reporting to the GM Copper Concentrate, you will be responsible for:

Product Value Analysis: Assessment of the value in use of our own and our competitors’ products to influence sales strategy, resource development, and E2E value chain optimization projects.

Development of our Value-in-use models: Help shape the development pipeline and execute projects that build and improve our value-in-use models and advance capabilities.

Collaborating across Commercial: Work closely with Copper Sales and Marketing, Market Analysis, and other VIU teams (Iron ore, Aluminium, etc), to provide VIU-driven pricing and placement insights.

Supporting our Assets: Work with RT Copper, Oyu Tolgoi, and Kennecott teams to support product development strategy, resource optimization projects, and evaluation of investment opportunities.

Participating in Technical engagements: Building stronger relationships with customers, and providing technical knowledge and data to improve the use of our products, while collecting data and insights.

Build an understanding of the technical requirements of target smelters (key focus on China) and the positioning of OT concentrate within each smelter’s blend.

Maintain a network of stakeholders in R&D and key associations in China.

Identify technology trends, with deep insight into the Chinese Copper & technology competitive landscape; identify the developments that will impact the future of the industry & Rio Tinto
About you
To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
-
Relevant tertiary qualifications in a technical discipline including metallurgical/chemical/process/mining engineering, geology/metallurgy/chemistry/other geoscience, or mathematics/physics.

At least 10 years of experience in the non-ferrous field in different roles involving operations, projects, Copper technology development, and R&D.

Direct experience of working in a Copper smelter or associated technology providersis a plus.

Able to support the development of advanced metallurgical technical modeling tools.

Experience working with external parties (Research & Development with universities, third parties, customers).

Customer and commercially orientated – enjoys engagements with customers and working in a commercial setting to influence decision-making processes and generate mutual value
-
Self-starter who enjoys solving problems and delivering value.

Proven abilities in navigating and operating successfully in a matrix organization, with stakeholders’ engagement and business partnering skills being key requisites.

Enjoys working as part of a team with sufficient patience/desire to help non-technical personnel

Bilingual in English and Mandarin.
It will also be beneficial if you have:

PhD in a field related to Metallurgy.

MBA, Masters in Commerce, or Masters in Minerals Economics.
