About the role
The Specialist Finance Platforms role is responsible for project delivery, embedding finance solutions into the business, consulting on improvement opportunities, and engaging with our support partners on system and process issues.
As our preferred applicant, your role will provide functional consulting guidance in SAP Finance and Controlling modules, by using strong skills in business analysis, agile delivery, opportunity identification and effective problem solving.
The upcoming finance platform upgrade (including CFIN and Tagetik) and Modern Enterprise Resource Planning initiatives create many opportunities for the successful applicant to work in an area with the latest technologies.
This role is an excellent opportunity for a performance motivated individual to work with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver existing system improvements and future solution needs.
You will manage effective business relationships; influence and implement supporting technology, digital strategies, roadmaps, and customer demand. Reporting to the Manager Finance Platforms, you will work in a collaborative and supportive team responsible for:

Build strong relationships with the Finance team to offer insights and advice on technology strategies, roadmaps, and initiatives that align with business goals.

Understand and leverage various technologies in our landscape, including SAP (FICO & BW) and the Microsoft Power Platform, to deliver maximum value.

Capture business priorities effectively using requirements gathering techniques and translate them into actionable plans for technical teams.

Support effort estimation for delivering initiatives and products, ensuring realistic and achievable timelines.

Deeply understand customer operations, business processes, and strategic priorities to provide tailored solutions.

Use performance measures to hold technology partners accountable for delivering high-quality products and services.

Participate in governance and risk management processes, offering functional advice to ensure safe, stable, and secure technology platforms.
This role will be within our IS&T – Technology Platforms division, where you will deliver to these key responsibilities:
Solution Design – Develop and define comprehensive solution designs that address both functional and non-functional requirements of the finance teams, ensuring systems are scalable, maintainable, and aligned with business strategies.
Stakeholder Collaboration – Work closely with business leaders, finance product owners, and technical teams to capture business requirements, identify pain points, and translate them into viable technical solutions.
Cross-functional Guidance – Provide guidance to development teams throughout the lifecycle of the project, ensuring solutions are designed and implemented according to technical and business specifications.
Technology Evaluation – Assess new technologies and design approaches to ensure they are suitable for current and future solutions, recommending best-fit technologies and tools.
Systems Integration – Design integration strategies for complex systems, ensuring smooth interaction between applications, databases, APIs, third-party services, and legacy systems.
Governance and Compliance – Ensure that all solutions adhere to governance standards, security policies, and regulatory requirements.
Documentation – Create and maintain high-quality documentation for solution architectures, technical frameworks, system components, and integration strategies, ensuring clarity for all stakeholders.
Performance Optimisation – Oversee the performance, scalability, and reliability of systems by identifying bottlenecks and areas for improvement, applying best practices in system architecture.
Continuous Improvement – Keep abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in solution architecture and apply them to enhance the organisation's technical landscape.
Agile Collaboration – Actively participate in agile ceremonies, providing technical input to ensure architectural integrity throughout the software delivery cycle.
What you’ll bring

Bachelor's degree or higher in IT, Engineering or Commercial disciplines.

SAP functional experience with hands-on experience in solution design; delivery and implementation.
-
Experience with SAP S/4HANA is highly regarded and working within enterprise transformations is desirable.
-
Strong expertise in SAP Financial Accounting and Controlling modules required ( including Materials Management, Sales and Distribution, Production Planning, Quality Management, Human Capital Management, Plant Maintenance, Project System and Logistics Execution ).

Operational and functional process knowledge across resources or heavy industry.

Experience with Agile delivery methodology and design thinking.

Proficiency in platform design, design patterns, and integration methodologies.

Ability to work with multiple stakeholders in a network organisation across multiple regions/time zones.

Strong business engagement/stakeholder management expertise.
-
Broad business process understanding with knowledge of impacts of business decisions and changes.
Previous experience in the Rio Tinto Business Solution is highly desirable.
