About the role
We are seeking a Senior Advisor to join Rio Tinto Iron Ore’s (RTIO) Business Analysis & Strategy Team, where you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our business. In this diverse and high-impact role, you will work with a broad set of stakeholders to build, drive and refine RTIO’s corporate strategy, develop high-impact strategic options to drive value and proactively mitigate risk, deliver data-driven financial insights, provide strategic and commercial guidance, conduct industry research, and influence and evaluate major capital projects.
The Business Analysis & Strategy team is in the privileged position to work closely with senior leadership on critical decisions that drive long-term value. Reporting to the Manager Business Analysis & Strategy, you will:

Assess major investments: Assess, value and influence major investment proposals, including preparing proposals for the Investment Committee & Board.

Evaluate project viability: Engage with the business to assess the economic viability of projects by undertaking discounted cash flow analysis and identifying key drivers to optimise project value.

Review investment decisions: Review and provide recommendations on capital expenditure, major operating cost decisions and post investment reviews.

Develop investment proposals: Develop and deliver compelling business proposals, investment cases, and pitch decks that effectively communicate strategic recommendations and secure stakeholder alignment or funding approval.

Capital planning: Support planning and capital management processes, including prioritisation of sustaining capital projects.

Operational support: Providing commercial and analytical support to operations leadership teams.

Drive strategic execution: Oversee and drive the progress of the business against key strategic initiatives.

Enhance business strategy: Recommend and influence improvements to existing business strategies to drive growth.

Analyse performance: Assess internal performance and capabilities to uncover value-creation opportunities and proactively manage risks.

Define strategic options: Identify strategic pathways and formulate actionable recommendations for decision-making.

Apply industry insight: Leverage an understanding of the broader business landscape and industry context to support decision-making.

Industry research: Conduct deep research, including industry and competitor analysis.

Prioritise team safety: Bring a commitment to safety for yourself and the team.
What you’ll bring
This is a great opportunity for an ambitious, proactive professional with excellent stakeholder engagement skills and strong commercial acumen. The successful candidate will have:

Tertiary qualification in a Business or Technical discipline.

5+ years of experience in finance, with a large industrial organisation or management consultancy.

Solid understanding of financial concepts, especially in valuation and modelling.

The ability to translate raw information into business insights.
-
A curious and strategic mindset with a creative outlook and a focus on problem solving and achieving outcomes.
-
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to create clear and succinct presentations for executive audiences.

An established collaborator with strong stakeholder engagement skills including the ability to influence and build rapport across all levels of the organisation.

Sound values with high business integrity.
It will also be beneficial if you have:

Post-graduate qualifications in Finance, an MBA or equivalent.

Resource sector experience, including involvement in projects and studies.

Where you'll be working
This role is based in Perth, at our head office in Central Park, and working Monday to Friday.
