We are looking for a strategic and experienced professional to join our team as the Principal Advisor, Technology Business Management. In this senior-level role, you will be instrumental in translating financial guidance into actionable strategies that drive operational excellence, innovation, and alignment across the Information Systems & Technology (IS&T) function. Acting as a key partner to Finance and senior leadership, you will ensure that financial insights are effectively integrated into technology planning and execution, enabling the organization to meet its performance and transformation objectives.
Responsibilities

Strategic financial planning: Develop and implement financial strategies that align IT goals with broader organizational financial objectives.

Financial advisory: Translate financial guidance into actionable plans within IS&T and advise senior leadership on financial direction and business management practices.

Stakeholder engagement: Collaborate with internal and external finance partners, acting as a trusted advisor to ensure financial needs are met through IS&T strategies.

Performance management: Oversee financial performance metrics, monitor effectiveness of financial strategies, and provide regular updates to senior management.

Innovation and operational excellence: Drive the development of innovative financial solutions that enhance efficiency and support the organization’s strategic goals.
What you’ll bring
To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

Extensive experience (10+ years) in business management, with a strong focus on financial and technology-driven environments.

Educational background in Business Administration, Finance, Information Technology, or a related field (Bachelor’s required; Master’s preferred).

Expert-level financial management skills, including strategic planning, cost management, and performance measurement.

Strong stakeholder relationship management capabilities, with the ability to influence and advise senior executives.

Proficiency in Technology Business Management (TBM) frameworks and tools to align IT investments with business value.

Innovation mindset, capable of developing and implementing forward-thinking financial strategies that support operational excellence.
Familiarity with SFIA skills at advanced levels, particularly:
Financial Management (FMIT) – Level 6
Stakeholder Relationship Management (RLMT) – Level 6
Cost Management (COMG) – Level 5
Innovation (INOV) – Level 5

Fluent in French and English, both written and spoken. Rio Tinto is a global company, and the duties of this position require daily collaboration with colleagues, teams or partners based outside Quebec.
