About the role
We currently have an opportunity for a Senior Advisor Finance who will support the Strategy and Town Services Leadership team. The role requires strong analytical support and a sophisticated ability to influence and drive change.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Manager Strategy & Town Services, you will:
- Be a part of a high performing finance team, partnering to drive business performance

- Partner with stakeholders to proactively drive financial analysis and cost discipline and influence outcomes through providing a decision framework supported by insightful and accurate analysis.
- Build rapport with a variety of stakeholders across functions including Finance, Controllership, Treasury, Tax and Risk
- Collaborate with other regional teams on Global plans and actuals and improvement processes
- Lead the development of rigorous planning and drive improved business performance through highly effective forward plans
- Develop financial understanding and drive a step change in cost discipline and leadership across the cost centre owners in the areas you support
- Provide business with relevant, detailed, accurate and timely financial analysis, studies and counsel to influence and shape financial strategy, analysis and market insight
- Understand performance to identify improvement opportunities, and support the business in developing high value initiatives to optimize business outcomes
- Leverage technology to provide insightful advice and identify new improvement opportunities and improve processes within the team and business
- Ensure governance and compliance through effective application of financial controls and risk management
Specific Areas of Operation
Responsibilities include:
- Collaboration with the RTA finance team to develop and deliver accurate month end processes that meet the needs of the following areas of Operations:
- Weipa Town Authority and RTA. Noting that WTA and RTA operate across different systems
- Cape Kids and RTA. Noting the role of the Maxxia and Centre link related funding
- RT Closure and RTA for Progressive Closure progress reporting.
- Oversee the timely and accurate preparation of month-end reporting. Review the preparation of Accrual due by COB WD-2; and Actuals for the WTA, Cape Kids Childcare Centre and RT Closure.
- Oversee and assist with the preparation and review of the annual financial reports as they relate to WTA, Cape Kids Childcare Centre and RT Closure.
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations, internal controls, accounting standards and company policies.
- Collaborate with auditors and regulatory bodies during audit and reviews. Provide team with guidance around additional controls and process changes to correct any arising recommendations from reviews.
- Support teams in recognising and evaluating the financial impact of business activities and projects.
- Support the Cape Kids Childcare Centre for their debt management process.
- Identify and analyse opportunities for process enhancements and cost optimisation within teams
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting and forward planning
- Provide guidance around Capital Projects
- Guide and support Supervisors, Cape Kids Management team and Closure Readiness management team in developing stronger financial knowledge and skills
- For the Cape Kids Childcare Centre, support obligations may extend to non-financial matters associated with the Centre operations.
What you’ll bring
- Bachelor degree in a financial discipline and/or professional qualification MBA, ACA, CPA, CMA
- 5 years + finance experience within a complex global organisation. This should include experience with Joint Venture accounting. Experience with mining and exploration accounting is preferred.
- A team player with excellent communication, influence and engagement skills at all levels
- Analytical and forward-thinking competencies
- Good knowledge of budgeting and forecasting
- Genuine curiosity for understanding detailed business performance and using that understanding to develop insights and improvement initiatives. Continuous improvement, value creation with evidence of identifying and mitigating risks
- Background of influencing and working with diverse teams in matrix model
- Expertise across a full range of standard business, finance and presentation toolkits (SAP, PowerPoint, Excel, PowerBI, etc.) and an aptitude for identifying technology-based solutions to enable increased efficiency and performance improvement
- Ability to work autonomously with minimal guidance

Where you’ll be working
Our Weipa Operations includes three bauxite mines, processing facilities, ship loaders, an export wharf, two ports, power stations, a rail network and ferry terminals. Located on the Western Cape York Peninsula in Far North Queensland, each year the operation produces more than 35 million tons of bauxite.
Our operations are supported by a 1,900-strong workforce—including 26 per cent who are women and 25 per cent Indigenous employees. Activities include mine operations, maintenance, asset management, ports, cultural heritage management, and processing facility management.
The development of our new mine, Amrun, which was completed in 2018, will extend the life of our Weipa bauxite operations by decades to come and significantly build on our 55-year history on the Western Cape
