We are looking for a Contractor Coordinator to work within the Contract Department to support Gove Mining Operations in Supervising the day-to-day operations of all additional work undertaken by contracting companies, as well as being the contact for project teams working or visiting the mine area.

Reporting to the Superintendent Mining and working in a collaborative community within the Mining Production team, you will:

• Ensure full understanding and adherence to all agreements, contracts, and CMX framework processes, including reviewing work method statements and JSEA documents.

• Assist company representatives in managing contractors across scope, risk, and administration, while providing ongoing guidance and support to various workgroups.

• Oversee mobilisation of contractor staff (60+ individuals) and machinery to site, ensuring readiness and alignment with operational needs.

• Administer site-specific inductions, training, and refresher courses to maintain compliance and safety standards.

• Conduct safety interactions, CCFVs, and coaching; report and investigate incidents; ensure adherence to critical risk protocols.

• Work closely with Mine Shift Supervisor and operations team, attend pre-start meetings, and maintain effective communication across departments.

• Supervise contractor-led site projects (e.g., drilling, asbestos removal, timber collection), and chair monthly progress meetings.

• Initiate maintenance notifications, process purchase requisitions, obtain quotes, and log/report daily shift details accurately.

What you’ll bring

• A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team

• A strong background in mining operations, with 5–10+ years of experience in contractor supervision or site coordination.

• Relevant qualifications such as Cert III in Surface Extraction, Cert IV in Work Health and Safety, and/or Trainer Assessor certification.

• A deep understanding of Rio Tinto Aluminium Group (RTAG) mine policies, procedures, and safety standards.

• Excellent communication skills—both verbal and written—with the ability to clearly convey complex information to a wide range of stakeholders.

• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, while maintaining high standards of safety and compliance.

• Confidence in interpreting and applying legal contracts and documents, ensuring accurate implementation and adherence.

• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport quickly and work collaboratively across teams and cultures.

Where you will be working

Our Gove Operations have been supplying the global aluminium industry with world-class bauxite for more than 40 years. Located in Australia’s Northern Territory, each year the operation produces approximately 12 million tonnes of bauxite.

With a workforce of 460 people, daily activities include mine operations, maintenance, asset management, shutdown planning and execution, export operations, cultural heritage management, and closure activities following our decision to close the site’s alumina refinery and associated Residue Disposal Area in 2017. 

We expect our bauxite mining operations on the Gove Peninsula will cease in 2030 and we are undertaking significant work to support closure of the operation. We also recognise our operations take place on Indigenous-owned land, and we are committed to working together to achieve a positive future for Nhulunbuy and the Gove Peninsula post-mining.
