We are looking for a Supervisor – Electrical for our Power Generation and Distribution Team, Weipa Operations, a world class asset in the Rio Tinto Bauxite business.
In this role, you'll manage and supervise trade employees in maintenance activities, ensuring tasks are completed safely and efficiently. You'll allocate maintenance coverage for breakdowns and resolve on-the-job issues related to planned maintenance activities and shutdowns. Additionally, you'll monitor working practices and adherence to safety procedures to ensure the safety of employees working in the area.
Living in the idyllic coastal town of Weipa, working across both our Northern and Southern Operations on a Day night lifestyle roster, based at Northern Operations.

Reporting to the Superintendent Electrical, you will:
- Ensure that all aspects of the Power Generation, Township and Site Distribution Networks and electrical facilities maintenance meet health, safety and environmental regulatory, compliance and business values requirements.
- Providing representation of Weipa in customer and community relations and activities.
- Supervises trade employees in maintenance activities.
- Allocates maintenance coverage for breakdowns.
- Resolves on the job issues (with regards to planned maintenance activities, maintenance shutdowns, etc.)
- Monitors working practices and adherence to safety procedures to ensure safety of employees working in the area.
- Team Management: Define staffing needs, establish selection criteria, and identify development needs.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify, evaluate, and implement opportunities for improvement and best practices.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with other functions to ensure seamless operations.
What you will bring
- A strong commitment to the safety of yourself and your team.
- Tertiary qualifications in Electrical preferably within a related field.
- Experience in Distribution or Power Station maintenance highly regarded
- Leadership experience within mining or similar heavy industry maintenance role.
- Ability to promote, mentor and drive a diverse way of thinking and ability to challenge the status quo.
- Project Management: Highly organized with excellent project management and problem-solving skills.
- Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
- Legal Understanding: Familiarity with impactful mining and labor laws is advantageous.
- Leadership: Proven experience leading teams in challenging environments.

Amrun, our newest mine, was completed in 2018 and will extend our Weipa bauxite operations by decades, significantly building on our 55-year history on the Western Cape, and providing jobs and supporting business growth in the region. The mine is located on traditional land. We work closely with the Traditional Owners to implement our agreements, ensuring that the benefits generated from mining support future generations and that important cultural heritage sites are identified and preserved.
