El rol de Líder de Estudio – Comita será responsable de la entrega segura del estudio avanzado en Comita, conforme a la Nota Guía de Definición de Estudios de Rio Tinto (SDGN).
Liderará un equipo con base en Medellín, Colombia que deberá trabajar con partes interesadas internas y externas (incluidos los socios de la empresa conjunta) para garantizar que el estudio avanzado de Comita se entregue de forma segura, a tiempo y dentro del presupuesto.
Este rol requiere conocimiento y comprensión de los procesos regulatorios colombianos, y debe asegurar que todos los elementos del estudio avanzado cumplan con dichas expectativas.
Como líder clave dentro del equipo colombiano de RT, este rol será fundamental para establecer la marca y reputación de Rio Tinto como socio preferido en Colombia, demostrando claramente capacidad técnica, credibilidad económica y compromiso con el desarrollo sostenible.
Reportando al Gerente General del Proyecto, Usted estará a cargo de lo siguiente:
- Desarrollo y entrega segura de estudios avanzados en Comita conforme a la Nota Guía de Definición de Estudios de Rio Tinto (SDGN), cumpliendo con el cronograma y el presupuesto.
- Liderar al equipo de estudios de Comita en la ejecución de estudios avanzados del proyecto en Comita.
- Impulsar la participación de Expertos Técnicos internos y externos en todas las disciplinas (incluyendo técnica, salud y seguridad, medio ambiente, comunidades, logística y finanzas), coordinando sus aportes para avanzar en el estudio.
- Colaborar con el Gerente General de Comita para interactuar con la Junta de la empresa conjunta y el Grupo de Productos de Cobre de Rio Tinto, con el fin de maximizar el valor del proyecto y gestionar el flujo de caja y el financiamiento para cumplir con los requisitos del proyecto.
- Participar conjuntamente con los organismos regulatorios colombianos para asegurar el cumplimiento de los estudios avanzados con todos los requisitos regulatorios del país.
- Gestionar y mantener estándares adecuados de Salud y Seguridad para garantizar la entrega segura del estudio avanzado.
- Cumplir con los requisitos legales, estatutarios e internos de Rio Tinto, así como con las expectativas de la comunidad y las mejores prácticas reconocidas.
- Construir, influir y mantener una cultura de equipo positiva que fomente la colaboración, el compromiso y la productividad en todos los equipos.

- Título universitario en Ingeniería, Minería o Geociencia.
- Experiencia demostrable en el desarrollo de proyectos mineros, especialmente en estudios de etapa temprana, procesos de permisos y aprobaciones.
- Capacidades comprobadas en gestión de estudios y gestión de proyectos, con habilidad para definir criterios de éxito, cumplir hitos del proyecto, mantener registros, controlar costos y cumplir con los requisitos de comunicación.
- Conocimiento en gestión de riesgos, conciencia comercial, análisis empresarial, elaboración de informes y capacidad financiera.
- Experiencia trabajando en entornos sociales, políticos, regulatorios y económicos complejos y dinámicos, especialmente en Colombia.
- Amplia experiencia liderando equipos multidisciplinarios de profesionales, con reputación de ser un líder comprometido con el desarrollo del talento.
- Fuertes habilidades interpersonales, con historial de construir y mantener relaciones significativas con partes interesadas internas y externas, incluidos reguladores y comunidades.
- Excelentes habilidades de comunicación, con dominio del español y el inglés.
- Capacidad para comunicar y presentar eficazmente (tanto oral como escrito) temas, estrategias y recomendaciones.

About the position

The Study Lead – Comita role will be accountable for the safe delivery of the advanced study at Comita in line with Rio Tinto’s Study Definition Guideline Note (SDGN).
This role will lead a Colombian-based team that will be required to work with internal and external stakeholders (including JV partners) to ensure the Comita advanced study is delivered safely, on time and on budget.
This role is required to have knowledge and understanding of the Colombian regulatory processes and ensure all elements of the advanced study comply with these expectations
As a core leader within the RT Colombian team, this role will be critical in establishing the Rio Tinto brand and reputation as a preferred partner in Colombia by clearly demonstrating technical ability, economic credibility, and commitment to sustainable development.
Responsibilities & key focus areas
- Development and safe delivery of advanced studies at Comita according to Rio Tinto’s Study Definition Guideline Note (SDGN) on schedule and on budget
- Lead the Comita studies team in the execution of advanced project studies at Comita
- Drive engagement with internal and external Subject Matter Experts across all disciplines (incl. technical, H&S, environment, communities, logistics, and finance), coordinating their inputs to advanced the study
- Collaboration with the GM Comita to engage with the joint venture Board and the Rio Tinto Copper Product Group to maximise project value and manage the cash flow and financing of the project to meet project requirements.
- Co-engagement with Colombian regulatory bodies to ensure compliance of the advanced studies to all Colombian regulatory requirements
- Manage and maintain appropriate Health and Safety standards to ensure the safe delivery of the advanced study
- Comply with statutory, legal and internal Rio Tinto requirements as well as community expectations and recognised leading practices.
- Build, influence and maintain a positive team culture for collaboration, engagement and productivity across all teams
What you will bring and require to be considered for this role
The successful candidate will bring a “safety first” mindset and champion behaviours and a culture where both physical and psychological safety are the number one priority. They will be an inclusive leader who can effectively collaborate across the business, as well as bring the following skills and experience to the role:
- Tertiary level qualification in Engineering, Mining or Geoscience.
- Demonstrable experience in the development of mining projects, particularly in early-stage studies, permitting and approval processes.
- Proven study management and project management capabilities with the ability to determine project success criteria and adhere to project milestones, record keeping, cost control and communication requirements.
- Knowledge in risk management, commercial awareness, business analysis, reporting and financial acumen.
- Experience in working in complex and dynamic social, political, regulatory and economic environments, notably in a Colombia.
- Extensive experience leading multi-disciplinary teams of professionals with a reputation for being an engaging leader who develops talent.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a track record of building and maintaining meaningful relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including regulators and communities.
- Excellent communication skills, with proficiency in Spanish and English.
- Skilled in effectively communicating and presenting (both orally and in writing) issues, strategies, and recommendations.
