El/la Gerente de HSES es responsable de liderar el desarrollo y la ejecución de estrategias de salud, seguridad, medio ambiente y seguridad física en todas las fases del proyecto Nuevo Cobre, desde el estudio y diseño hasta la construcción y operación. Este rol garantiza que el proyecto cumpla con los estándares de Rio Tinto y los requisitos regulatorios chilenos, protegiendo a las personas, los activos y el medio ambiente.
La posición desempeña un papel crítico en asegurar la licencia social para operar del proyecto, fomentar una cultura de seguridad y sostenibilidad, y habilitar la preparación operativa mediante sistemas sólidos de HSES y prácticas de gestión de riesgos.
Responsabilidades principales y áreas clave de enfoque:
- Desarrollar e implementar el sistema de gestión HSES adaptado al ciclo de vida del proyecto, incluyendo evaluaciones de riesgo base, planes de respuesta ante emergencias y marcos de cumplimiento.
- Liderar la ejecución de HSES durante las actividades del proyecto, asegurando la alineación con los equipos de ingeniería, permisos y operaciones. Monitorear el desempeño en relación con los KPIs y obligaciones regulatorias.
- Identificar y mitigar riesgos físicos, químicos, biológicos y de seguridad. Asegurar que las medidas de control estén implementadas y se revisen regularmente.
- Promover una cultura de seguridad proactiva, realizar investigaciones e implementar acciones correctivas. Liderar pausas de seguridad a nivel sitio y sesiones de aprendizaje cuando sea necesario.
- Colaborar con contratistas, reguladores y representantes comunitarios para garantizar transparencia y alineación en temas de HSES.
- Construir y gestionar un equipo multidisciplinario de HSES, incluyendo asesores en seguridad, medio ambiente y seguridad física. Brindar coaching y desarrollo alineado con los valores de Rio Tinto.
Lo que se requiere para ser considerado/a para este rol:
- Título universitario en Ingeniería, Ciencias Ambientales, Salud Ocupacional o campo relacionado.
- Especialización de posgrado en Gestión HSE o Ingeniería de Riesgos (preferido).
- Mínimo 15 años de experiencia en roles de HSES dentro de proyectos mineros de gran escala y entornos operativos.
- Sólido conocimiento de la normativa chilena en HSE y estándares internacionales.
- Experiencia en permisos ambientales, gestión de residuos e higiene industrial.
- Familiaridad con protocolos de seguridad para sitios remotos y de alto riesgo.
- Capacidad comprobada para liderar equipos de HSES en entornos de proyectos complejos.
- Habilidades sólidas de gestión de stakeholders y colaboración transversal.
- Mentalidad estratégica con disciplina operativa.
- Alta integridad, resiliencia y compromiso con la mejora continua.
- Dominio del español e inglés.

About the Role

The HSES Manager is responsible for leading the development and execution of health, safety, environmental, and security strategies across all phases of the Nuevo Cobre project—from study and design through construction and operations. This role ensures the project meets Rio Tinto’s standards and Chilean regulatory requirements, while protecting people, assets, and the environment.
The position plays a critical role in securing the project's license to operate, embedding a culture of safety and sustainability, and enabling operational readiness through robust HSES systems and risk management practices.
Primary responsibilities & key focus areas
- Develop and implement the HSES management system tailored to the project’s lifecycle, including baseline risk assessments, emergency response plans, and compliance frameworks.
- Lead HSES execution during project activities, ensuring alignment with engineering, permitting, and operational teams. Monitor performance against KPIs and regulatory obligations
- Identify and mitigate physical, chemical, biological, and security risks. Ensure control measures are in place and regularly reviewed
- Promote a proactive safety culture, conduct investigations, and implement corrective actions. Lead site-wide safety stand-downs and learning sessions when needed 3 5.
- Collaborate with contractors, regulators, and community representatives to ensure transparency and alignment on HSES matters
- Build and manage a multidisciplinary HSES team, including advisors for safety, environment, and security. Provide coaching and development aligned with Rio Tinto’s values ).
What you will bring and require to be considered for this role
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Occupational Health, or related field.
- Postgraduate specialization in HSE Management or Risk Engineering (preferred).
- Minimum 15 years of experience in HSES roles within large-scale mining projects and operational environments.
- Deep understanding of Chilean HSE regulations and international standards.
- Experience with environmental permitting, waste management, and industrial hygiene.
- Familiarity with security protocols for remote and high-risk sites.
- Proven ability to lead HSES teams in complex project environments.
- Strong stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Strategic mindset with operational discipline.
- High integrity, resilience, and commitment to continuous improvement.
- Fluent in Spanish and English.
