We are seeking a Specialist – Risk and Capital to join our Operational Excellence team at Greater Tom Price and Marandoo Operations. This role is ideal for a proactive, people-focused professional passionate about supporting operational leaders, contractors, and frontline teams to drive safety, risk management, and capital excellence.
As part of a supportive and high-performing team, you’ll work closely with the Manager Operational Excellence, contributing to both personal and team development goals.
This position follows a 5 days on / 2 days off / 4 days on / 3 days off roster on-site, giving you more time to spend on the things that are important to you.
Reporting to the Manager Operational Excellence, you will:
- Promote a proactive safety culture — actively communicate and model safety-first behaviours to ensure awareness, compliance, and ownership across all operations.
- Drive continuous improvement — identify, evaluate, and implement opportunities using Rio Tinto best practices to enhance operational performance and efficiency.
- Collaborate effectively — work closely with functional teams and stakeholders to achieve shared goals and optimise outcomes.
- Develop team capability — provide coaching, mentoring, and technical guidance to operational teams, fostering growth and performance excellence.
- Lead capital and risk management — oversee risk and capital processes, remove barriers to execution, and ensure alignment with business priorities.
- Support strategic planning — contribute to business planning cycles by delivering analytical insights on risk, capital, and productivity across operations.
- Strengthen risk integration and assurance — embed risk management into core decision-making, maintain risk registers, and coordinate assurance activities to enhance governance.
- Champion governance and change management — oversee capital portfolio governance, Management of Change (MoC) compliance, and build leadership capability in risk and capital management.
What you’ll bring
- A Current Western Australian ‘C’ Class Driver's Licence (Manual)
- A business, finance, engineering or other technical degree is advantageous
- Exceptional communication, stakeholder management skills and ability to work autonomously whilst influencing leaders
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and advanced MS office knowledge
- Previous experience in risk management, sustaining capital, engineering or accounting preferred
- Demonstrates understanding of relevant legislation, Rio Tinto systems, governance frameworks and assurance requirements

Where you will be working
Tom Price is located in the central Pilbara, west of Karijini National Park and is our original Pilbara mine, currently employing residential and fly in fly out employees. It is known as one of the most attractive towns in the Pilbara with a high school, two primary schools a hospital and a high standard of recreational facilities.
