Rio Tinto is seeking a dynamic and experienced Land and Mineral Rights Specialist II to work within the Tenures and Approvals team, providing tenement management and approvals support within Rio Tinto's Exploration group.
This role is a great opportunity to expand your knowledge and experience as part of a diverse business. Supporting our Australasia portfolio, you will work with stakeholder groups, including government departments and our own Geologists. The role supports multiple commodities, and you will build your knowledge across multiple jurisdictions within Australia, Papua New Guinea, and Laos.
Reporting to the Land and Mineral Rights Manager and working in a collaborative community, your responsibilities will include:

Prepare and lodge exploration tenement applications and various compliance documentation, including renewals, variations to tenement conditions and reports.

Coordinate the submission of approvals documentation, including water licenses, ground disturbance permits, regional interest development approval applications and site-specific environmental authorities.

Review tenement and approval-related requests and provide advice on process and procedures.

Assist the project teams to ensure all relevant licences and approvals are in place in order to undertake exploration activities.

Ensure strict compliance with statutory obligations.

Maintain documents and databases to monitor and manage the compliance obligations of the exploration tenement portfolio.

Liaise with statutory bodies, stakeholders, and industry rep bodies regarding tenement management issues, including amendments to mining legislation, regulations, and guidelines.
What you will bring:

Commitment to safety of yourself and your team.

Highly experienced in tenement management (a number or years experience in similar environments would be advantageous).

Experience with the interpretation of legislation and associated regulation.

Experience with government lodgement portals, including GIS systems (e.g. GeoResGlobe, WAMAX, MyMinesOnline, Tengraph, MTO, etc.).

Clear understanding of exploration tenement application processes and compliance obligations.

A good understanding of related legislation as they impact upon tenement management (e.g. Environmental, Local government, Native Title, Safety)

Well-developed negotiation, communication and problem-solving skills.

Experience in the use of Landfolio or an equivalent tenement management database would be viewed favourably.
