Oyu Tolgoi is one of the most exciting projects in copper and gold mining for several decades. It contains reserves and resources that make it one of the world’s largest known copper and gold deposits. The project, managed by Rio Tinto, is expanding underground. With a high demand of skills required to complete the project safely and successfully, Oyu Tolgoi is expected to be a significant contributor to Mongolia’s development and the prosperity of the Mongolian people.
The Opportunity
We are looking for Principal Advisor UG Mobile Maintenance to support the UG Mobile Maintenance Team by coaching and mentoring the national leaders in all aspects of UG mobile equipment asset management. This is a senior role that requires suitable background experience in large complex UG mobile fleet management. The Principal Advisor UG Mobile Maintenance is responsible for providing expert guidance on asset management best practices, ensuring effective structures, processes, and systems for underground mining operations. This role involves strategic leadership, stakeholder engagement, and collaboration to enhance asset performance, compliance, and operational efficiency.
What the role entails
This role is a great opportunity to take the next step in your career on a truly global project with FIFO to site 4 weeks on and 2 weeks off reporting to the Manager Maintenance Reporting to the Manager UG Mobile Maintenance, you will be:
- Influencing the safety culture for the UG Mobile Maintenance team,
- Accountable for providing expert guidance on underground mobile equipment maintenance management,
- Provide management support to the national leaders,
- Provide rotational coverage for the Manager Mobile Maintenance, coach and mentor the national leaders within the mobile maintenance team,
- Driving performance and providing leadership to the team,
- Overseeing and monitor the performance of large OEM service contractor(s), to ensure compliance with work management metrics and equipment performance metrics,
- Engaging stakeholders and contractors to ensure maintenance activities are performed safely and in accordance with Rio Tinto standards and procedures,
- Providing technical support and direction on UGHME maintenance execution, safety, strategy planning and equipment performance,
- Maintaining relationships with key stakeholders to drive a culture of collaboration, participation and improvement, and
- Liaising with and coordinating the interface between Mining operations team and the Mobile Maintenance teams.
What you will need for this role
To succeed in this role, you will have:
- An Engineering degree qualification or suitable experience with trade and asset management background
- Be highly respected as a Asset Management / UG mobile maintenance leader and subject matter expert.
- Have extensive experience leading maintenance teams, preferably in a variety of mine sites across commodities.
- Have a deep commitment and passion for developing people at the front line.
- Be a skilled coach, trainer and adviser.
- Have good understanding of, and proven skills in, work management process analysis and improvement.
- Have strong communication skills and proven ability to engage and build relationships across multiple layers of the organization from management to front line leaders and technicians and operators.
- Have strong organizational skills with the ability to effectively prioritise tasks and work both independently and as part of a team.
- You will be part of a high performance team dedicated to continuous improvement, your diversity of thought and practical experience will be highly valued.

Where you’ll be working
Oyu Tolgoi is an operating Copper / Gold open pit and underground mine. The site is located in the Gobi Desert region of Mongolia. The reserves case for the underground project is in the order of 0.5 billion tonnes of ore to be mined from the 95,000 tonnes per day Hugo North Lift 1 (HNL1) panel cave mine with a 20-year operations life. There is also the potential for 3 further block cave districts to increase mine life beyond 100 years.
