About The Role
An opportunity for a Specialist Process and Functional Safety is available at Rio Tinto’s Paraburdoo site on a FIFO 5/2 – 4/3 roster.
We are looking for a Process & Functional Safety Specialist who will be accountable to provide support, governance and assurance for our Pilbara Mining Operations to manage Process & Functional Safety. In Rio Tinto Iron Ore, Major Hazards refer to Low Probability High Consequence events. Process & Functional safety are the methodologies used to deliver and maintain the critical safety controls layers. Our purpose is to support operations to maintain their layers of protection and assist in improving them where we can.
This role will specialise in supporting the implementation, governance and assurance of processes and standards that are utilised across our fixed plant and heavy mobile assets within Rio Tinto’s Iron Ore Operations.
Reporting to the Superintendent – Process & Functional Safety, your key responsibilities will include:

Ensure appropriate systems and processes are in place, maintained, and effective for managing Functional Safety standards

Act as an interface between site teams and Process & Functional Safety Engineers as required

Coach end users on requirements within the standards and how to meet them

Facilitate development and implementation of site initiatives and improvements to achieve optimal outcomes

Report on performance and partner with sites to lead action plan development

Support site leaders in developing and participating in First Line of Assurance programs (audits and assessments)

Champion incident reporting guidelines, promote investigation methods, and assist in managing change to drive improvement and prevent recurrence

Where you’ll be working
This role will be offered FIFO from Perth, where you will work at our Paraburdoo mining operations on 5 days on, 2 days off, 4 days on, 3 days off roster.
Located 80km southwest of Tom Price, Paraburdoo is a town nestled in some of the most scenic landscape in Western Australia. Paraburdoo is recognised for its beautiful scenery, wildlife diversity and close proximity to Karijini National Park. Paraburdoo prides itself on being a safe and friendly community; ideal for young families.
The picturesque town provides residents with a range of leisure facilities and local amenities including a domestic airport, hospital, community centre, childcare centre, primary school, parks and a variety of sporting facilities. The recently built Paraburdoo Sports, Fitness and Community Complex offers state of the art facilities including an Olympic-size swimming pool, indoor basketball court and gym.
