About the role
We are looking for a Senior Advisor Heritage to lead and support key heritage Management initiatives that enable the preservation and management of cultural heritage in alignment to Rio Tinto Iron Ore’s Cultural Heritage Management System (CHMS).
This position reports into the Manager Heritage Technical, within the Iron Ore Health, Safety, Environment and Communities (HSEC) Traditional Owner Partnerships (TOP) team. You’ll be part of a supportive group, supported by your leader to grow and achieve your own personal goals as well as the goals of the team.
Key accountabilities include but are not limited to:

Leading the maintenance and continuous improvement of RTIO’s Cultural Heritage Management System (CHMS), underpinned by the development of strategies, process and documentation for sustaining leading-practice of heritage management and Traditional Owner partnerships at Rio Tinto Iron Ore (RTIO)

Embedding co-management and partnerships with Traditional Owners through alignment of Traditional Owner-related commitments to RTIO’s CHMS

Leading or inputting into the technical development and improvement of heritage management data and systems (e.g. GIS, InfoScope)

Supporting strategic problem solving and stakeholder engagement in relation to evolving heritage legislative practice and compliance requirements

Providing expert technical advice and complex problem-solving support to RTIO heritage professionals and teams, building knowledge and capability of RTIO staff and contractor personnel

Maintaining an integrated view of extant and emerging Heritage and Communities and Social Performance (CSP) risks, leading the development and embedding of compliance and assurance strategies and programs to mitigate Social Licence to Operate risks

Leading and participating in RTIO and HSEC routines to ensure effective communication and collaboration between critical stakeholders, and building relationships with relevant internal and external stakeholders to advance RTIO heritage programs

Leading the understanding and coordination of heritage management projects
What you’ll bring
To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
-
A degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, Cultural Heritage Management, or similar
-
Technical expertise in Heritage Management, and ability to conduct occasional site visits and fieldwork (Pilbara)
-
Experience and understanding of undertaking culturally sensitive engagement with Traditional Owner and communities
-
Experience working within Heritage Management in the mining & resources sector (or adjacent, e.g. Cultural Heritage Management consulting, Not-for-Profit, Prescribed Body Corporations, Government)

A self-driven ability to set the work plan and direction of assigned projects and be responsible for prioritising, delivering, and reporting delivery outcomes

Familiarity working with GIS, data and heritage information management programs and systems

Strong stakeholder relationship management and communication skills
-
