About the role:
Joining the Rio Tinto SimFer team presents a unique opportunity to be part of one of the most significant mining developments in Africa in recent decades. The SimFer mine hosts world‑class reserves and high‑grade resources, making it one of the largest and most attractive iron ore deposits globally.
This large‑scale project is expected to be a major contributor to Guinea’s economic and social development. As a member of the Rio Tinto Simandou Project team, you will have the opportunity to contribute to something truly significant while developing both personally and professionally. We are seeking a Maintenance Planning Superintendent to develop, direct, plan and coordinate all maintenance planning activities within the mine maintenance teams, ensuring high‑quality, consistent delivery that supports safe and efficient operations.
Your responsibilities:
This is a unique opportunity to help develop and implement a world‑class iron ore operation in a challenging and rewarding location. The role is a two‑year fixed‑term FIFO contract, based at the SimFer mine site in Guinea, Africa.
Reporting to the Central Asset Management Manager your key responsibilities will include:

Building and sustaining a strong safety culture by ensuring all work complies with relevant legislation and meets Rio Tinto Health, Safety and Environment standards.

Leading the development and implementation of maintenance planning systems and processes that integrate with the broader site planning framework.

Developing detailed maintenance plans and equipment strategies that support safe, efficient and reliable mine development activities.

Providing functional leadership, coaching and capability development for the maintenance planning team.

Leading the implementation and ongoing application of Zero‑Based Budgeting (ZBB) processes.
What you will bring
To be successful in this role, you will bring the following:

A university degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, maintenance management, or significant practical experience leading maintenance planning and scheduling teams in a large‑scale operation.

A strong understanding of preventive maintenance programs, with demonstrated ability to develop and execute maintenance plans.

Proven ability to work effectively in multicultural environments, including mentoring and developing teams to support succession planning.

Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing maintenance planning systems and processes.

Demonstrated experience in implementing Zero‑Based Budgeting (ZBB).
-
Strong English communication skills; French language capability is desirable.

About the Simandou Project
The Simandou Iron Ore Project is located in the Republic of Guinea, West Africa. It is Africa’s largest infrastructure and mining project and represents one of the largest known reserves of high-grade iron ore in the world.
Rio Tinto holds rights to Simandou Blocks 3 and 4 through SimFer, a joint venture between the Government of the Republic of Guinea, Rio Tinto and Chalco Iron Ore Holdings (CIOH). Construction of the mine, together with the associated rail and port infrastructure, is well underway with first production from the SimFer mine expected in 2025.
