The Opportunity
We are looking for Specialist EL Production to join our diverse team delivering the world-class Oyu Tolgoi underground mine in Mongolia. This is a key role within the Owner’s team with the responsibility to coach, train, mentor and develop the underground national production supervisors and production operating team.
The roster for this role is a 4 weeks on / 2 weeks off FIFO arrangement and will be an on-shift basis.
What the role entails
This role is a great opportunity to display your skills in coaching, training, mentoring and developing a team to safely bring a world class caving operation into production. This will be achieved by engaging with multiple on-shore and off-shore teams to define skill requirements, systems of work and resources required to deliver the required underground production requirements. Reporting to the Production Superintendent, you will:
- Work with multiple stakeholders to coach and develop a competent national workforce capable of safely executing underground production and haulage activities
- Comply to all necessary company safety standards and ensure a high quality standard of production activities is achieved whilst achieving the necessary drawpoint compliance, schedule and cost requirements
- Providing coaching, development and mentoring of national production supervisors, and national production operators
- Contribute to the general education of the underground workforce regarding block caving methods, risks and constraints;
- Actively participating in Extraction and Haulage Level design and planning processes to identify opportunities to improve constructability and/or operation of the cave;
- Actively collaborating with site based Project and Operations personnel along with off-shore technical teams to establish operational systems to support Production activities;
- Responsible to ensure all underground production activities are performed safely and in accordance with schedule, quality and cost requirements through engagement with multiple work groups.
What you will need for this role
To succeed in this role, you will have:
- 15+ years’ experience in underground mines, specifically operating underground production equipment, block caving and supervising underground production activities.
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of an integrated delivery team;
- Skills developing and working to process and procedures,
- Quality assurance and continuous improvement skills
- An ability to work autonomously within a highly complex project delivery environment;
It will also be beneficial if you have:
- Work and living experience in developing countries with strong cultural awareness
- Underground Training experience.

Where you’ll be working
Oyu Tolgoi is an operating Copper / Gold open pit and underground mining project. The site is located in the Gobi Desert region of Mongolia. The reserves case for the underground project is in the order of 0.5 billion tonnes of ore to be mined from the 95,000 tonnes per day Hugo North Lift 1 (HNL1) panel cave mine with a 20+ year operations life.
