About the role
Based in Brisbane or Perth, our CSP Standards and Assurance Team is seeking a Principal Advisor – Governance to ensure Rio Tinto’s CSP standard remains risk‑aligned and compliant through expert advice, strategic oversight, and continuous alignment with internal/external standards and best practice. This is a global, senior technical role, working across an international landscape of industry partnerships and ESG standards. It is integral to our social risk and assurance processes.
Reporting to the Senior Manager CSP Governance, and working in a global capacity, you will:
Standards alignment and consistency

Maintain CSP control document alignment with Rio Tinto commitments and external regulatory requirements

Monitor emerging international ESG assurance frameworks and social performance standards

Review and input to draft industry standards on behalf of Rio Tinto, and signal when corresponding updates are required to internal standards

Work with SMEs across disciplines and regions to ensure consistent interpretation of CSP requirements of internal and external Standards
Capability framework

Develop and maintain the CSP capability framework including defining capability requirements for roles with community or human rights exposure.

Manage relationships with academic/learning partners (e.g CSRM, Centre for Future Materials)
Targeted technical support

Provide technical CSP advice to support the CSP assurance processes.
About you
You are an experienced and technically strong CSP governance specialist with the ability to interpret and apply a broad, complex international landscape of internal and external standards, translating these into practical, risk‑aligned capability frameworks. You bring proven experience partnering with internal and external stakeholders and are a confident influencer who can negotiate, collaborate and provide trusted technical advice across multidisciplinary teams. You will also demonstrate:

Strong knowledge of CSP technical discipline and asset level field experience in the mining or related industry

Ability to simplify technical content into clear and practical guidance, and deliver content through strong collaboration

Effective influencing skills when engaging with senior leaders; superior written and verbal communication skills

Where you’ll be working
You’ll join the Communities and Social Performance (CSP) Standards and Assurance team within Safety, Development and Technical (SD&T). Our role is to provide clear CSP and human rights standards and minimum requirements, design and deliver consistent second-line assurance (with a coaching mindset), share learnings and best practice, and define the technical capabilities needed to meet standards, while Product Groups and assets remain accountable for delivery.
