The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and values-driven General Manager – Concentrator & Logistics to lead the safe, reliable, and cost-effective performance of the Oyu Tolgoi concentrator and associated concentrate logistics.
This is a fixed-term assignment of 24 months, with a clear mandate to drive the concentrator to its full potential, embedding strong safety leadership, cost discipline, and continuous improvement while building capability and confidence across the leadership team.
Purpose of the Role
- Provide strong, visible leadership to a large and complex processing and logistics organisation.
- Unlock and sustain concentrator performance through disciplined operating practices, reliability, and improvement.
- Embed a culture of care, accountability, and inclusive leadership, with safety as a non-negotiable priority.
- Contribute to Oyu Tolgoi’s operational excellence.
Key Accountabilities
- Lead the safe operation of the concentrator and concentrate logistics, role-modelling strong safety leadership and coaching leaders to reinforce safe behaviours.
- Drive cost leadership and continuous asset performance improvement.
- Deliver annual and longer-term business plans aligned to site aligned with the business strategy.
- Build strong, inclusive leadership teams and develop future capability.
- Ensure robust risk, compliance, and environmental performance in line with standards.
- Strengthen collaboration and relationships with internal and external stakeholders including Rio Tinto and contractor partners.
- Partner effectively with internal stakeholders and external contractors, OEMs, and logistics providers
What you will bring:
- Post-graduate qualification in Metallurgy or a relevant Engineering discipline (Process, Chemical, or equivalent).
- Minimum 15 years’ experience in metallurgical or processing operations, with the last several years in senior leadership roles.
- Deep understanding of concentrator operations, processing optimisation, and production systems.
- Strong knowledge of commercial contracts, supply chain, and logistics in complex operational environments.
- A strong safety mindset, with demonstrated ability to coach, influence, and embed safe behaviours through leaders.
- Proven experience leading diverse, multi-disciplinary teams and building inclusive, high-performing cultures.
- Track record of delivering performance improvement through people, systems, and disciplined execution.
- Confidence operating at enterprise level across functions and engaging other SMEs and leaders across the Group.
- Established networks within the Rio Tinto business or comparable global resources organisations.
- Credibility engaging with external stakeholders including contractors, partners, and service providers.
- Commercially astute, with the ability to balance value, risk, and long-term sustainability.

Where you’ll be working
Oyu Tolgoi is an operating Copper / Gold open pit and underground mine. The site is located in the Gobi Desert region of Mongolia. The reserves case for the underground project is in the order of 0.5 billion tonnes of ore to be mined from the 95,000 tonnes per day Hugo North Lift 1 (HNL1) panel cave mine with a 20-year operations life. There is also the potential for 3 further block cave districts to increase mine life beyond 100 years.
