About the role
We are looking for a Senior Advisor – Controllership to join our Pacific Bauxite & Alumina Controllership team, providing high-quality accounting advice and partnering closely with the business to support informed decision-making across operations.
This is a great opportunity for a technically strong and commercially minded accounting professional to take on a role combining hands-on involvement across closure activities, lease accounting and bauxite operations, while gaining broad exposure across the Pacific portfolio. Based in Perth, this role offers the opportunity to lead critical financial processes, deliver practical commercial insights and drive continuous improvement in a dynamic finance environment.
Reporting to the Manager – Controllership and working in a collaborative and high-performing environment within Pacific Bauxite & Alumina Controllership, you will be:
- Managing closure provisions end to end, including reporting, end of life assessments and preparation of accounting position papers in collaboration with business and study leads.
- Acting as the primary contact for Closure and lease accounting, partnering with business and accounting services teams to resolve accounting matters and support reporting requirements.
- Serving as the key Controllership contact for Gove Bauxite operations, ensuring compliance with accounting policies and reporting standards.
- Acting as a service delivery partner to the Business Unit to deliver practical, responsive and commercially focused accounting support, acting as a key interface to Finance & Accounting Services (FAS).
- Providing technical accounting support across RTA Pacific Bauxite & Alumina operations, including identification, investigation and resolution of accounting issues and preparation of accounting papers.
- Ensuring compliance with Rio Tinto accounting policies, internal controls and SOX requirements, including review of Blackline reconciliations and investigation of legacy balances.
- Delivering accurate and timely monthly reporting for your scope, proactively identifying and resolving issues impacting reporting quality or timelines.
- Supporting half year, year end and statutory reporting processes, including analytical reviews, disclosures, management sign off packs and external audit support.
About you
- A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team.
- A bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, with strong technical accounting skills and an accounting certification (CA, CPA, or equivalent).
- Advanced Excel skills, with working knowledge of SAP/BW and CCH Tagetik finance tools highly desirable.

Experience working with external auditors, including Big 4 audit experience, and exposure to Closure, SOX, Leases and the Aluminium business.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to connect financial information to business activities for insightful analysis and reporting.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with effective collaboration, a proactive approach, and the ability to work independently.
